Radio switches channels when off??
Ok here is a different one... I have noticed that my HK raido is switching stations when the car is turned off... That is.. I listening to one station and turn off the car.. leave it for awhile (no one else drives it).. And sometimes when I start it up, the radio is on a different channel..
This might even happen when I use the CD or Aux input for a long time too..
It would not be that bad if I liked the "other" station... But I don't..
Anyone else experience this or have recommendations on what to check out??
Thanks

Did you have to pay more for that "feature"?
I'm sorry - it's probably not funny to you and HAS to be fustrating.
This is a new one to me...
My MINI does it too!!!
I don't have the HK radio and mine does that. It switches to a station that is NOT one of my preset ones.
Do our MINIs have artificial intelligence? Or just bad taste (mine switches to the trendy/pop/hip-hop/teenager station)?

Ah.. so there is another radio with this..
Thanks for the replies (even the joking ones)..
I have not had a chance to call MINI on this one.. But I could see how they might default to "not able to reproduce the problem" because it does not happen every time or in a predicatable manner..
Maybe after the holidays I can try to call MINI to see if they will admit to a "flaw" in the head unit..
I was more feeling around too see if there were many radios out there with this problem.. That might make my talks with MINI easier..
Again, thanks for the replies..

If it helps... Mine is an 05 MCSa, built in July or August, no computer mods/upgrades. I also have the clock-runs-fast "quirk".
In addition, I strongly believe that Malibu Stacy once caused me to make a wrong exit on the freeway because she wanted to go to the mall!

Just wondering, are you maybe using a different key? In other words, are you using one of the 2 keys, then, when the channel changes, it's because you're using the 2nd key? No, then it would just stay on what ever you listened to last...... Nevermind
2 keys - good idea...
...but I only use the one key... I would be really impressed if my MINI had a "driver" memory like that. One key would play your favorite "daily driving" music.. The other key coulld be programmed for Motoring through the twisties.. Maybe we are on to something...
But then again... If the radio presest are programmed close enough you could just use your left thumb to do that
Thanks for the replies and the smiles

I think it happens when 2 stations are close together. Mine only seems to switch stations when I turn my MINI off while listening to 94.1. When I get back in, 93.3 comes on. Perhaps the frequencies are too close??
I haven't noticed it happening with any of the other preset stations, just 94.1. The ONLY other POSSIBLE explanation is that Malibu Stacy finds 94.1 to be too geeky, and so she changes it to the much trendier 93.3.

Wow that is wierd..
Those are the same stations that mine is switching between as well..
The other thing that I noticed is when I start the car and the power first come on for the radio it shows 93.3 on the display but sometimes it switches to 94.1 after the engine is started..
I wonder if it is a radio signal power effect... Both are San Diego local stations with some good boradcasting power..
batgirlwildcat are you in the Mira Mesa area too??
Maybe we are narrowing in on this "feature"

Did it go away??
Howdy all - that are following this..
I just realized for the last few weeks my radio has been behaving.. No phantom channel switching...
Just wanted to check and see if others have noticed that too...
Maybe it was not the head unit but something in the air..
Thanks

I'm not having this problem, but I can think of another possible cause. Many radio stations are in the process of adding a digital signal to their analog signal. Typically this is done by broadcasting the two different signals on two different wavelengths that are very close together--hopefully close enough that your radio presets won't notice. Maybe one of your favorite station's signals is even closer to one of the mystery station signals than the numbers suggest, and maybe the difference is less than the tolerance built into new radios to accomodate for a station broadcasting two different signals on slightly different wavelengths. It's possible that the signal your MINI was listening to when you turned it off is either the digital or analog because that's what it was receiving well (I don't know if or how often the radio samples the two signals to decide which to play in the car). When you turn your MINI back on, the radio seeks the strongest of the two signals and switches to the other station because they are so close together.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
