Thinking of an upgrade.

I am thinking of upgrading my audio components in my 03' MCS. I don't want to replace my stock head unit for various reasons (theft, loss of steering wheel controls, ect.). Do you guys feel that upgraded speakers (front and rear) would make a pretty big difference? It seems like the stock head unit has clean power. I was also thinking of hooking a sub up in some way. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

if you have an HK car, forget about it unless you want to devote alot of time to changing things.

If you get a HU with a wireless controller, one of the MINI sites sells an adapter that will allow you to use your MFSW controls with the new HU.

New 6x9's make a big difference, i put 6 1/2's up front instead of 5 1/4's. i still need tweeters.

I went with a 10 inch Infinity sub, and my alpine amp should arrive friday.

so far, this setup is FAR superior to the HK that was in my MC. for about $750 bucks, i have a syetem that is much more adaptive, i can do alot more with, and looks alot better than the factory's offerings.

I have a "normal" audio system (not HK). Can you point me in the direction of the site that sells the adapter you are refeering to? Can it only be used with certain head units?

i believe it was newministuff.com

any head unit that has a remote will work with it.

so, pretty much any head unit ofer 200 bucks, lol

i would highly recoomnd the CDA9851, its a really nicely setup HU, i like it alot!

if you want some info on the install aspect of the project, i have a few DIY's going on at my weblog, www.rednwhitecooperonline.com, with some info on changing speaker, adding dynamat, the HU install, and an alime iPod adapter install.

Email me if you run into any problems.

Theft: see my faceplate facelift page!

Steering Wheel controls: If you get a HU with a remote, get a SWI-X device and you can still use your SW buttons. Google it.

Click on the link in my sig for other audio install info and pics. Maybe they'll help you.
