First MCSa with a Lightweight Crank Pulley?

On Saturday Randy Webb installed a 0% (stock size) light weight crank pulley on my car. All I can say is the change is drastic. I noticed it right away. The car revs faster and I have noticed no change in the cars drivability.

So am I the first MCSa with this mod?

Would you mind telling me a little more about your new crank pulley? Who's the manufacturer? How much was it and how much was installation (if you don't mind sharring). I'm very interested in doing this mod, it could be the next one if it's a noticable difference. Thanks!

This past Saturday Oct 15th @ a Pulley Party hosted by Randy Webb of Webb Motorsports I had a stock size Alta lightweight crank pulley installed. I went with the standard size rather then 1-4% bigger because of my auto tranny and not wanting to push it to much. But now I wish I had done at least a 2%. The difference was immediate. The engine revs faster and doesn't seem to have any problems revving to high RPMs. Also I found my redline went up about 200rpm when shifting 1-2 and 2-3.

Also there is a big peice of mind knowing that huge slug of crap isn't rotating on my engine. Check my blog for more details.

Keeping an eye here...

My MCSa is due to arrive in a couple of weeks (currently on the high-seas!). The three main things I'm looking to do are:

15% SC pulley
2% Crank Pulley
(Brand unknown yet) air intake. Although I like the looks of the K&N Typhoon Intake.

I do plan on waiting probably about 6 months before doing these though just to make sure she's running fine stock.

Wow you are brave to go with a 15 & 2. I went with a 0% because I figured I wouldn't to nuts. The power this tranny can handle is stuff unknown. But I might increase horsepower with other mods. I am very interested to hear how things go with that combo on your MCSa.

By the way, let the person who will be installing your pullies know in advance that its alot trickier on a MCSa then a MCS. For the supercharger pulley you need to live the engine higher out of the bay. And with the crank pulley there is alot less room to get the belt tensioner tool in.

Yeh, it took Randy and me working together to get the tensioner to hold.

Right you helped Randy learned on my car. He said my MCSa was the first Automatic he did a crank pulley on. He has every install down to a science and to see him struggle is sad. But once he saw the problem and how to fix it he was right back on track

Perhaps contact the manufacturer to find out - the MCS has the TF 60SN:

Went to Audi's site briefly and in the base Audi TT Coupe, it states this:

"180 hp with 6-speed Tiptronic® automatic transmission and front-wheel drive"

That spec sounds similar, to me, to the MCSa. Is the Mini and auto-6 as well? I can't remember.

I've seen a few people ditch the K&N in favor of the Alta... If you're buying for looks, it's a winner in that dept. If you're buying for sound... well, the Alta is my favorite. If you're buying for performance, Alta Alta Alta.

There are plenty of TT's that get worked up just as much as our Mini's I'm sure... I wouldn't stress much about what that tranny can handle just yet.

Thanks for your comments F15. Not to discount ANYTHING anyone has said, but I've just been sitting here thinking about it when it was brought up and thought, "Would any manufacturer put a tranny into a car where the top end of what the tranny can handle is what the stock engine is putting out?" I'd like to think not, but I'm no expert. I'm admittedly a newbie to modding cars. My thinking was would Mini put in a manual trans that is ~10x beefy'er than the Auto trans?

The whole subject just threw me for a loop :impatient, I had never thought of that. At the risk of sounding foolish, I'm only adding about 25hp with those 3 mods, right? I would expect the trans to handle that.

Again thanks to everyone, you're really helping me out!
