Borla Sport, Milltek or Magnaflow?

I checked the sticky exhaust thread but find it a bit outdated. Would love to hear from people who added either Borla Sport, Milltek or Magnaflow to their 05 MCS.
What are the true findings in terms of sounds and noise inside? Have people actually done dyno theirs? What about ease of fit? And can pretty much any exhaust shop do the install?

Thanks,
H

This is going to be my next big purchace so I too would love to hear those three exhaust notes. I've been trying to decide between these three for a while now. Mostly borla sport and miltek.

I'm looking for one too, so far I found Milltek has one for the 05, even for the Convertible, Borla Sport, I've read they have one for the 04-05 but some say it won't fit my convertible while others say it fits but it will work for your 05 coupe.
Magnaflow has a part number for the 04-05 but no price yet, the reason is they do not have one built yet, I tried, I even called them direct and it's still on hold.

i too am interested in the magnaflow, but i have a 05 too. so i guess i will have to wait.

if anyone knows if the magnaflow is just a issue of changin the hangers or there is more involved. if its just the hangers, a good shop should be able to wipe that out in about 30 mins to a hour.

i installed a magnaflow onto a 05'. all you have to do is cut off the inside hanger on each side and weld on a new hanger. i used part of a milltek hanger that i had left over in the garage. it woudl be the same with any system that fits a 02' to 04' car. just change the hangers.

From my calls to Magnaflow to try to get a replacement resonator, they finally said the resonators are being completely reengineered due to all the issues (rattling) they have had with them.

Not sure this applies to newer models but for my 2003, that's the story I'm getting. It's been 2 months now since my first call and still no replacement resonator.

How does it sound, please share . I'm guessing any exhaust on an 05 will have louder pops and gurgles when letting off the gas since the stock exhaust is louder than past years. Am I right?

I recently installed a pre '05 Borla sport into my '05 cooper s. The install was painless. The inside muffler hangers had to be slightly modified. I can't imagine a better sound coming from my MINI. Very throaty with tons of deep pops and gurgles.

A Borla will sound like a Borla irrespective of if its an '02 MCS or an '05 MCS.

Likewise Milltek, Magnaflow, Scorpion, etc. will sound the same as others irrespective of the year of your MCS. The difference is in the mounting, As of 01/04 the brackets have been moved 90 degrees from earlier vehicles.

Same sound from the exhaust though.

You mean the gurgles and pops won't be louder than the pervious years? I know a stock 05 sounds different than the earlier years so I thought that maybe with an exhaust it would still sound at least a little different. Do you mean that the only reason the stock 05 sounds different than a stock 04, 03 and 02 is because of the different stock exhaust?

No, you are correct, the ECU tuning is different for 2005. It runs rich when the throttle drops which produces the burbles/backfires. They are more promounced with an aftermarket exhaust.

The hangers are also different, but that's not the cause of the burbling/backfiring.

Thanks for clearing that up I knew there was something else besides the exhaust that was different. I was starting to think that maybe I was just hearing things.

FWIW, I don't find our 05 MSCa to have anywhere near as much of the burble pops as the few 05 manual cars that i have test driven....

Likely due to torque converter and engine compression.

So are we ever going to get any sound clips in this thread or what? Markbradford would you be able to post a sound clip of your miltek? Agocart would you be able to post your Magnaflow? Anyone with a borla sport? It seems to be impossible to find a good sound clip of a borla sport.

Those are both the same video. Great video though. I would still like to see the dyno vid if you have it. I'm planning on doing pretty much the same performance mods so it would be nice to hear what your whp was, if you want to share that info.

177whp. Wow, that must be fun. Have you considered doing a header too or are you set with what you've got now. The reason I ask is because eventually I want the same performance mods you have + a miltek header. Just curious to see why you haven't done a header too.
