Front Grille Removal DIY??

Thought I saw a DIY on how to remove the upper front grille on an MCS but can't find it now.

Anyone know where to find it or provide the steps to remove.

Thanks!!

Do a search for "aero grill" and you'll find instructions on removing the front grill.

Removing the upper front grill removal is pretty simple (in concept). There are a series of 10mm self tapping nuts and washers that need to be removed. Once removed, the upper front grill just comes off.

The problem is that the self tapping nuts are threaded into plastic posts that are part of the upper grill. It can be difficult to "unscrew" them since the threads are not particularly big. You need to use a thin flat head screw driver and wedge it between above the washer to apply pressure to the self tapping nuts while they are being removed. Be careful not to apply too much pressure or you will snap off the plastic post. If you are removing the upper grill to install a black aero grill then breaking off the posts won't matter. But if you ever want to put the old chrome grill back on it will be a lot more difficult without those posts.

The screws on the top edge of the upper grill are the most difficult to get out since they are harder to access.

Good luck.

And if you are putting it back together using the original chrome grille..
Use skinny zip-ties instead of trying to get those nuts back on

Good advice! Anyone have thoughts on a good way to remove the lower OEM chrome grill?

The one in the bumper? It just pops out from the back.

The lower grill is two pieces. The outer rim piece is held in with tabs, fitting into slots & can be pulled out. The center slat is a part of the bumper cover with a chrome cover piece stuck on with double sided tape on an S. I like to heat this with a strong hair drier or heat gun to soften the glue then slowly work it off. Remaining tape can be gotten with GooGone, GoofOff or WD-40.

The DIY for the Aero Grill mod recommends taking the entire bumper cover off to do the mod. Doing this, which is not difficult, allows you to work from the back which I find provides a buffer for any slips: scratches on the back of the bumer cover don't distress most folks.

I did just as Capt_bj wrote. I pulled it of without any trouble at all. Just do it carefully.
