Andy, what mods do you have on your car?

By Andy's request I am asking him what his mods are and what he has found to be most effective on his car. This is not a trap as I PMd him to keep this private. he requested a new thread or an email and I did not readily see his email address

This will probably help out a bit (andy can let us know how up to date it is)

http://www.ross-tech.net/andy/mini/mymini.html

Seems like a few engine mods, and only one suspension mod.

Andy....just curious, but why a 19mm sway instead of the usual 22(for an MCS that is....19 is typical on MC's)?

I currently have:

19% pulley
380 cc injectors
GIAC software
One-ball exhaust
HAI
16x7.5" Kosei K1
205/40-16 Falken Azenis RT-615

I went with the RDR 19mm mostly since I wanted a fairly mild reduction in understeer. The 19 mm on its middle setting seems to work great for that.

I should update my web page.

They pull 2 coconuts hot, but only 1 coconut when they get heat-soaked.

Andy, did you EVER put the Alta CAI back on or has it been HAI ever since the find?
Curious because I thought I saw the Alta CAI on in a recent pic. and remembered wondering why you might have reverted.

I haven't hit the dragstrip since I put the smaller diameter tires on. I'm hoping for good things.

I've got the 205-15 G force Drag Radials on and with the ecu in limp home mode it wouldn't go over the line in third without hitting the rpm limiter

Now its in normal mode I'll be hitting 4th a lot earlier but I think I might have traction issues because of the extra hp, it had 128hp (86.2 @2447lb) the other weekend in limp home mode

Of course its all bs until that green light drops on Sunday

Hey Andy, how are the Kosei K1's holding up? I prefer their look to the K1-TS but heard about some problems with the K1's.

The K1's are good. I actually don't mind looks of the K1-TS and would rather have them due to the lighter weight. When I first installed the K1's, I neglected to use anti-sieze on the hub surfaces and threads and, as a result, one of the front wheels had its bolts loosen up (I wasn't able to get them tight enough, apparently). After that scary incident, I put a small amount of anti-sieze on each bolt and torqued them to spec - no problems since. I have read other reports of people having loose K1's as well and I have no explanation why these particular wheels would be succeptible to that condition, while other wheels would not.

What do you think of the Azenis? I want 215-45-16 for cornering and a little closer (but less than) stock gearing, but they are not due out till next quarter. Are they about 8% smaller than stock?

Could you post your picture/dimenstions of the pulley belt loosener again so I can try to make one? Did you make your own or just reinforce the factory one?

Thanks a lot.

I had the 215/45-16 RT-215 Azenis tires prior to these and the new ones feel as sticky if not more, and are definitely better in rain, as well as being quieter. The gearing change of course does not show up on the speedo, but it's very noticeable in daily driving, especially compared to other pre-'04 MCS.

I got the factory belt tensioner tool and it broke on the second use, so I had a local shop weld it back together and make it purdy.

I sure do, it makes driving 78.3% more enjoyable.

I threw it away. There was more dirt inside the plastic cover than there was outside. So, my shifter dirt is now free to exit the car and run free!

I'm confused by what you said. Do you mean it does not create a speedo error? Are you really going slower than the speedo? How much slower in reality are you going, compared to stock gearing, or 215-45-16?

There is speedometer errror now, an indicated 77.7 mph is equivalent to a real 70 mph (GPS-verified). Stock it was only about 2 mph error. What I meant is that the speedo and tach still have the same relationship. Only one of them is lying a little bit now.

Andy-

Maybe I am showing my ignorance but, what is a magnesium interior door casing? Sounds very cool, but I just can't picture what it is.

It was a goofy option that my car had. It looks like this:

Instead of the door panel being a textured black surface to match the rest of the plastic in the car, it is a smooth pale gray surface. Not the best shot, but I swapped it out for black panels from a Cooper:
