NEW Koni FSD @ TireRack.com

In standard shock absorbers the main damping characteristic is defined by the oil flow going through the piston assembly (1).
Combining it with the FSD feature (2), KONI added a special valve that controls an oil flow parallel to the one going through the piston rod (3). This parallel oil flow is closed by the FSD feature, giving a rise in damping force almost linear to the time that the piston is moving in one direction

Put simply: the FSD feature is a hydraulic amplifier that delays the build up of pressure. In some ways an extra tuning option has been created in order to get the best possible combination of handling and comfort.
Since it is an integrated part of the hydraulic valve system inside the damper, no additional cables, sensors or any other electronic devices are needed to operate an FSD damper.

Just ordered a set from the Rack...will be at my installers on Friday.
Should I have ordered springs as well, or will I be OK?
Wheels are the standard 17" runflats on my '05 MCS. I plan on a set of Prada's come spring.

I believe that they are a direct replacement for stock shocks, and cannot be used with lowered springs.

they are self adjusting - thats the whole hook, once you ender into a set the valving gets firmer, and when you return back to a more sedate orintation, so does the valving.

Hi Alex - Just had H-Sport Springs from TireRack.com installed on my 2003 MC, would these help the tightness of the suspension now without losing the crisp cornering I am getting - I certainly don't want to go back to the learch and dive I was getting with OEM springs. I have 42K miles, how long should I wait to change the struts - or is that a "when you feel it feeling crappy" thing? Thanks for the help!
what's missing from your collection is a rear swaybar.

I just spoke with my "contact" at Koni and while i don't want to quote him directly (since I didn't ask permission), I will paraphrase.
He states that the Mini is very well suited to the FSD, and that it will increase performance while reducing the characteristic mini harshness.
He did say, however, that he wouldn't recommend running them with the car lowered more than 1". I mentioned that I'm running H&R springs and his suggestion was that the yellows would be a better choice, given my current car height. There isn't much shock travel, and hitting the bump-stops would disrupt the FSD system.
--------
Again, this is a person I trust not to BS me and his enthusiasm for the product is making me consider changing my springs so I can run these shocks - maybe the hsports...
