MINI Donut Spares for $109.20!

OK guys, I tried to work out a group buy since so many people want them, but no deal. I did, however, find what I believe to be the best prices around but you have to get the tire from one place and the rim from another. Here is the deal:

Tire Rack has the 115/70/15 Bridgestone for $75 plus shipping. call them at 877-522-8473 - I spoke to Eric at x 391

Classic Mini has the temporary spare rim available to NAM members for $34.20 plus shipping. Speak to Jason at 440-205-6404

You have to find a place to mount the tire to the rim.

By contrast, my local dealer - Crevier - wanted $110.20 for the wheel and $147.20 for the tire!

That's awesome Rick. One of our c3 members with an MCS was quoted something similar. I think she ended up with a full size tire as a spare!!

Now will this work if you have 17" wheels?

List price for part number 36-11-1-509-164 is $42.75, so Classic's price reflects their 20% off

Yes, but it's only intended to get you somewhere to have your flat fixed or buy a new tire.

Note the difference between the space-saver spare and 16" wheel-tire combo

Yep, the gal with the MCS had 17" runflats that got a large gash in the sidewall from a rock. We moved a rear wheel up front, and put my donut in the back--which she borrowed. She made it down the mountain and drove another 15 miles to her home, no problem. She said she really couldn't even tell the difference. LOL.

I'm assuming some Coopers come w/ this from the dealer.. Where would this usually be hidden, where in the boot? Anyone got any pix of them in that location?

Thanks

It's underneath the boot and must be lowered down.

thanks Miniac.... Now would it be possible to put it in a Cooper s, if I get the same mounting kit that the cooper has...

Or is it impossible because of of how the battery is located for an S???

Is that a sale price for the rim or just a NAM special? This is a great price but I'm not ready to pick up a spare.

That is the regular price - the people at classic have VERY FAIR prices and give NAM members a discount in addition. Jason told me that there are over a hundred of the wheels in the US, so no hurry. The tire is the regular Tire Rack price but I am not sure about availability.

We almost allways have a few on the temps in stock!
Never plentiful, but usually available.

I checked with Vaheh at Crevier's Internet parts department and their price is $34.20 plus shipping also.

[Edit : I would say though that supporting a NAM vendor (Classic) is better for the same price. Going to Crevier would only be good for someone local who doesn't want to pay for shipping.]

I got a complete MINI compact spare unused from a junkyard

Right. Call Al's autowrecking (I posted this phone number elsewhere and need to hunt for it). They get a bunch of MINIs and they just climbed under a wrecked car, pulled one and shipped it to me a little dirty for $90.00. It still has the new tire rubber thingy fingers sticking out.

Call me stupid, but where do I find the area of the site to browse classic Mini? I searched on Yahoo and they just have a regular Mini site and nothing is listed under the Parts/Accessories!!

Sounds like that phone number would be a good piece of info. Hurry!

Is there something special about a Mini Spare? Since the mini has a 4x100 bolt pattern, cant we just use a spare off a Honda Civic? or is there issues with the brake caliper? Just a thought. Local junk yard has spares for like $20-$25

Good thought! I lend my MINI wheels to my stepson to use on his Honda Civic for autocrosses but I haven't tried a reverse fit.

I believe (though I am not certain), that some of the Civic spares will fit and others won't. I think you need a 15" spare, but some Civic spares are only 13". Maybe you need to get an 96+ EX spare to combat that problem???

I obtained a 14" spare from a civic and it will NOT clear the calipers front or rear. The bolt pattern is fine. Looks like it would have to be a 15."

When my MCS finally gets here I'll pull the temporary spare out of my Miata & see if it will clear the calipers on the MINI. The standard wheels on my Miata were 14 inchers with a 4x100 bolt circle. If it fits then there's another option from the auto breakers yard..... aka junk yard.

Just to let you folks know....the Miata spare was a no go. It wouldn't clear the calipers. Should have known it wouldn't being 14". I bought a temp spare & rim here in the marketplace. Keep checking there I've seen a few more come up for sale.
