Will I be able to adjust rear toe with only a pair of adj. control arms

Hi,

Like to know whether I will be able to adjust toe to 0 deg if I have only have pair of rear lower adjustable H-sport(for camber adjustment) fitted.Leaving the top control stock.By the way,the car will be lowered with PSS9 ...

Thank you.

I just went through this and when adjusting the rear control arms for camber it threw the toe out of spec. However, there is a way to adjust the toe by loosening the three bolts at the front end of each trailing arm which allows you slide the front of the arm in the desired direction. The person doing my alignment probably didn't know this so right now my toe is -.20.

This is a very timely question for me also...

While I've known that toe can be tweaked via the trailing arms, there have been a couple around here that have said that would be their last choice for doing so (adjusting toe). There's a really good alignment thread in this forum where one or two guys voiced such a concern. Of course, if it's the only option, then by all means, do it...

For those of us with upper control arms, is it more advisable to get the perfect alignment with strictly these arms (uppper & lower), and leave the trailing arms un-touched?

Tony, I have upper and lower arms and adjusting these is my prefered solution, it is easier to get a precise alignment of both camber and toe. It's doable the other way but it's harder to fine tune the toe with something that slides and has no index marks.

gowest, as always, thanks for sharing your knowledge! I'll bring my 1 1/8" (I think) wrench to work the Alta jam nuts... Thank you.

I would recommend you to go with both upper and lower for the ease of adjustment.

I would be a little steptical on the H-S chioce though. The bush on my H-S arm has just fell apart. If I have to choose all over again I would go with the rod end design. Just my 2 cents.

By the way, how do you like your PSS9? I haven't heard back from you.

Cheers

...just keep in mind, that these two options change toe from two completely different locations. Geometry is a funny thing; its affects are sometimes amplified elsewhere.

My alignment guy would like a picture of the three trailing arms that need to be loosened to adjust toe. If anyone has one, it would be appreciated.

The three trailing arm bolts are very easy to find as they are what holds the trailing arm to the chassis.

The best bet here is to make sure your car is perfectly aligned and toe adjusted to ZERO with the stock controle arms and other suspension parts still on the car. Being that the factory controle arms are all the exact same length then your trailing arms will be set perfectly to correct any chassis irregularities. Now you have a base to start with and you can comfortably reset any camber and toe with the new upper and lower arms and know that you are not making your car start to 'crab'.
