stock runflats and price
stock runflats and price
I just got a flat on my mcs and drove it over to the dealer. I wasnt sure if tires were covered under warrantee but i guess they arent. I was wondering what the average price for a 16" runflat is. I was quoted 275 for the replacement and to me that seems a little steep. Am i better off going somewhere else to get my tires changed?
TIA for any info

$275 is a total ripoff
When the MINI got a flat we had it fixed at a tire store and then when the tires wore out 5000 miles later I bought a set of barely used runflats from a NAM member and it came to $100 each after shipping and installation.
I don't care for the runflats though and won't buy them again. Good non run flat tires are way less money and perform better.
I checked prices at Tirerack and Big-O agreed to meet them.

the dunlaps are 149 or 159 depending upon all season or not.
Charging more than $100 to mount and balance a tire is insane

Tirerack sent me a RF. I took it down to a local independent shop, recommended by TireRack with all the right equipment, and they mounted for, I think, $35.
Shop foreman said they HAD to get the RF equipment because tirerack was sending them too much business!

Before you plunk down the change for a new tire, see if you can find a shop that will patch a run-flat. Depending on where the puncture is, it might be able to be saved. (side wall, you may be out of luck, but if it's in the treads, you may be in luck.)
Some shops will simply tell you that it's impossible, but it can be done. For some reason one of my tires is just a magnet for nails and I've had it patched three times!
I'm running the Dunlop SP5000 that came from the factory.
Good luck
