Suspension H sports w/ stock dampers?
H sports w/ stock dampers?
I was thinking about the H Sports on my 05 MCS and was curious, can the stock dampers handle these springs or should I really swap out the dampers too?
Suggestions?

Anyone have a thought on this? From your sigs, I see many of you guys have swapped out your spings, have you left the stock shocks or did you go aftermarket. If you stayed stock, did they last? If you went aftermarket, was the ride/handling better.
Thanks!

I have seen many stock shocks fail due to riding outside of the normal range of the shock. Most shocks and struts on new vehicles are designed with two ranges. One is the normal or what you would call the "comfort" range. The other is what they call the "control" range. The do this to maintain soft ride in normal conditions and firm up during more demanding driving. When you lower the ride height with stock shocks, you are in the control zone almost all of the time and you can sacrifice ride as well as wear the shocks prematurely. This is just my experience.
H-Sport springs lower 1 inch front & rear. That amount not far outside the range of stock shock. The higher spring rate may make the OEM shocks wear out sooner but not something you shouldn't have to address for quite a few thousand miles. Haven't put H-Sports on my Mini yet but, did put Eibach springs on 99 Accord V-6. Lowered over 1 inch, and had over 15K miles on the shocks when I sold the car. That was 2 years ago and current owner still running the oem shocks. Now, if you hammer a lot:smile: oem shocks may get tired sooner.

I just had Koni's installed under the H-sport springs that I've been autocrossing on for a year and a half. With r compound tires and camber, the stock struts/shocks were plum wore-out. I can't say I noticed it too much on the street but on the autocross course it was terrible. In hard turns I was basically pogo-ing off of the bump stops.
Interestingly, I was prepared for a very hard ride, but with the Koni's at 1/2 firm in back and 3/4 firm in front the ride is actually a little nicer. I have an event on Sunday so we'll see how it goes.

I thought it was ok until I replace the struts with Konis. Then I realized that it wasn't normal to bottom out at the bottom of dips. And although it rode harder, it didn't CRASH & BURN into bumps which meant the stock shocks just couldn't cope with the lowered height. Higher spring rate should be matched with higher compression dampers. While not as tunable as a set of Biltein coilovers, you'll still notice a big difference:smile:

I try and refrain from the threads that have to do with lowering springs on stock shocks because I will sound like a broken record. I've posted in the past warning about the rapid failure of stock struts with lowering springs. Replies were mostly from people who have made the mod and felt that their struts were doing just fine. I would have to bet that if they actually had them removed and checked that hey would find otherwise.
This happened to me. Until I ran on a rough track I did not realize that my struts were completely goners. .
I love the Dailey Show ..
