H-S Control arm bushing replacement

Hi

After a self inspection on my car lastnight. I've found that my inner left lower H-Sport control arm's poly bushing is torn. (That's why my car feel a little too hairy in high speed right turn .) Anyone know if the Powerflex poly bushing will replace the one come with H-sport or do I need to get the replacement from H-sport? Can it be replaced ?

Thanks

No...but I'm very curious about that failure. How many miles on your Mini? Hime joints should wear faster on a street car, not the other way around.

About 15000 miles. I'm curious too. Do you know if proflex poly will replace the h-s one?

Not sure about the Powerflex but if you contact H-Sport they will send you the bushing free (at least they did for me).

Same thing as yours; in fact, it was almost gone! My right side was showing wear too - they sent me two sets so I swapped them out and all is good now. Changed them out about three months ago and did a few track events after and they are still looking good but it has me checking them out ever so often now.

This is something that has been going on with the H-sports for a long time. In fact anyone who is using them should check theirs NOW. No one is immune to this problem.

I wonder if there are better poly bushing out there that will fit in the H-S arms and out perform them.

Is it posible to use Delrin instead? What would be the pro and con?

Thanks

...I wonder if the bushing is too small.

Just because it's poly doesn't mean it has a higher durometer reading than say garden variety rubber...

Delrin would work fine. But it, too, would wear out. But I don't think it would fail anywhere nearly as fast as the poly one does.

I sheared a set of HS bushings in 1 and 1/2 track days that had maybe 500 street miles on them. HS did send me a free replacement set.

One other thing to look for. When tightening the bars, avoid placing any rotational stress on the bushings as that just adds to the premature wear of the HS bushings.

Delrin: Main down side is increased road noise. Also, I wonder how stiff links like a Heim joint or Delrin bushing handle hard, laterally-induced impacts. For example, while corning hard and hitting a bump or pothole? Rubber or poly will absord it. Derlin will absorb a little of that energy and a Heim joint will simply transmit it elsewhere. Will something else break with the stiffer joints?

I just called HS to get a new set of bushings and the tech guy said they have changed the durometer of the poly bushings. He is sending me a complete set of new bushings and lube, so questions asked. Excellant service.

One more thing to do before the next track day.
