ALTA CAI dyno results

Last Friday I ran my stock MCS on a dyno and in "shootout mode" the car returned a result of 106.9kW (143.36hp). Last night I hooked up with some friends and fitted my ALTA CAI ... here are the results from today's dyno run.

Have many other people done before and after dyno runs with similar mods, and if so, is this gain fairly normal?

(To me this seems a bit high for just a CAI???)

Stock = 106.9kW (143.36hp)
+ ALTA CAI = 118.4kW (158.37hp)

TIA

Liam

Nice increase there Liam, i'm sure the more technically minded here will determine whether your 2 tests were accurate and fair.
Maybe it was some extra cold weather in our nations capital that got you those good numbers.

I was intested in the M7 AGS for a while but after some big-time hyping up, there's still no official numbers, just a lot of (nice) noise.

Temps were about the same, if anything maybe 2-3°C warmer today than when the base runs were done. As I continue to scratch my head.

Wow. At least it's now closer to the claimed HPower from the factory. Might have to get myself set up with one of these - are you enjoying the sound as well as the power?

Yeah, the sound is awesome, but not for the faint hearted. It will take a while to a) get used to it and b) stop fanging around like a madman everywhere just to hear the thing at full scream!

Fangin' around is something I know all too well so the CAI will make it near on impossible to stop. Have to catch up with you one time if you're ever up for a Pirate run (and finally meet all the MINI2 gang).
Good to see you got your Milltek on too (did you ever get my PM on that at M2?)

When i got my MCS, I bought a Monster MINI intake and I was pretty satisfied with the gains and sound...

About 2 months ago, I decided to give the Alta CAI a try and I saw a nice improvment over the Monster MINI intake... The s/c whine is a little bit louder, but I noticed a good increase in performance over my old intake!

And it looks way better with the heatshield...

15whp seems a little high, but I'm sure the Alta CAI gives at least 9-10whp.

What about cruising speed?

Hey All:

I believe that it has been said that "fanging" around is pretty awesome and fairly loud (not necessarily bad)?

However, what does the Alta sound like when just cruising around town and also when running around 70-80 on the highway? Do you experience any sort of an irritating whine or anything.

Just want to cover my bases before I order one.

Thanks
Ray

Wow, great gains! I too think that 15 at redline seems more than normal, but not too far off! We do claim 10-12 at redline, and there is about a 15WHP gain in the midrange! Great work, love those Aussie guys!! What is your elevation?

when you are cruising at a stead speed, your waste gate is dumping all you presure, there is not s/c noise of any kind, if you push down on the gas, you will hear it, I have a boost gauge so I can see what is going on in the intake, the second you push the gas and it goes from suction to " O " and start to put presure in the intake you hear the S/C whine, its great!!

Sounds like your results are quite possible Liam (although probably rare). Maybe an extra dirty filter as VoiD mentioned helped to gain those extra couple of whp?

Remember measurement theory...

The reported numbers are plus or minus something. If you say about a percent repeatability, then the difference is 15 +/- about 3 or so....

Also, some time to time variation (unless corrected for) may contribute as well.

Yep, I know of a car that has been tested on the same dyno with the same mods and got a difference of around 5kW/7hp.

The old OEM filter was pretty dirty, I'm surprised it was not replaced when I had my first service a few months ago. Dunno what the dealers are thinking not replacing air filters at 18,000kms/11,000m!
