Tein Super Street Opinions

Anyone running the Tein SuperStreet Coilovers?
I'm looking at all the alternatives - this one seems to be very economical.

Thanks

i was one that seriously considered the tein superstreet with edfc.... but after finding out their spring rates... you might want to be sure you know what you are getting into....

from tein's website, they state the spring rates are 508lb! front and back! it is going to make a very bouncy and HARD ride on the street...

tho with edfc... and the price... i almost tempt fate and brought them...

I'd pass, just because I'm not a fan of the low-end Tein stuff.

Also, I don't think many people would be happy with the effect of 500lb springs on a street-driven mini.

Ok folks, here's the deal.

We recently decided to give Tein a try, and here's what we found.

From the factory the superstreet coilovers have a very bouncy ride, so bouncy in fact that we found it annoying. In an attempt to earn our business they offered a free revalving.

After the revalve we found the coilovers to be excellent for street and track purposes. That is, with the EDFC. It's very nice to have 16 settings of dampening from inside the car. Since then we've started recommending Tein coilovers to everyone who asks, we find them far better than even the KW V3's. We actually just competed in the Car and Driver SuperTuner Challenge with this setup. The first day all of the editors took the car out so we had them set to the softest setting. The next day was purely a track test so we set them up much stiffer. Very high quality, my only complaint is the stupid stickers they send you with every kit. It's a spring dancing around with a creepy little smile... disturbing.

Feel free to check them out on our site and/or call us with any questions.

Tein also offers a couple sets of lowering springs worth taking a look at as well.

I forgot to mention, we also got competition linear springs front and rear. This solved that problem.

This kit is definitely not low end, by any means. I'm not talking from a salespersons point of view, we make more on other coilovers. These just work, and they work great.

EDIT::: I just noticed the "hard ride on the street" comment. The competition springs and revalving does make the ride less bouncy... but the setup is still pretty stiff as it's more of a racing-inspired kit. If it's strictly a street car and you don't plan on ever going to the track or needing a track-like handling ability, these probably aren't for you.

Anyone else that has the stock SuperStreet setup?
Like to hear from someone that has bought the system and have been using it for a while.

Are their shocks mono tube or twin tube? Are they using their springs or someone elses? What type of rate/dampning do the shocks and springs use. Withour knowing that it's hard to make an informed decision on what shock and spring to use.

yep, I wouldn't even consider using 500lbs/in on my other

3500lbs car. I think it might work better with their S-Tech
springs.

I honestly thought the 500lbs/in on their website was a typo Guess not, huh?

The economy of this suspension goes down drastically if you have to revalve AND respring it to make it useable.
By the way, is damper a monotube or dual tube?

i believe all SS's are the improved version of the HA's twintube design.

I had HA's on my 98 Prelude and 02 WRX in the past.

I have the SS set up with the EDFC and love them. No bouncing, no harsh ride on the soft setting. Mine are recent so maybe they changed things. Very happy. Here are some pics of the set up. Getting the camber plates in and taking it down quite a bit.
