Delivery tips?

Hey everybody,

I hope to pick up my car tomorrow, and was looking for some last-minute tips. I didn't do a search on this subject because I read some of the "Has NAM gotten boring?" thread and thought his might be fun for some of you...

I'm interested in MINI-specific things to check on before driving off: What items should the car include (ie tool kit, first-aid kit, etc)? How many keys? Any particular functions to be checked?

Thanks!

Remember to spend a lot of time carefully looking the car over for paint flaws, scratches, dents, misaligned panels and such. It's east to overlook these things and get a blast of BS when you report them later. Take your time to make sure everything is right. Look for leaks under the hood. I had a coolant leak that was present on delivery.

Congratulations and happy motoring!!!!!!!

The extra-heavy x-lites look great!!!

Pictures when you can......

Call ahead...

Call your motoring advisor before you head over in the AM. Ask him to gather up all the freebies and goodies he can lay his hands on for you.

Suggest things like ball cap, pens, notebooks, mugs, keychains, tee-shirts, floor mats, CD's, posters, extra SMINTS...

I ended up getting a whole hoard of freebies by buttering up my MA via email about a week in advance.

At first he wasn't going to offer me floor mats, but it was raining the day I picked up the car, and I asked him if he was REALLY going to make me track mud/water into my brand new car...he ducked away and returned with a free set of floor mats just like that!

Decide if you want any programmable options de-activated (e.g. auto lock or convenience opening). Call your MA ahead of time to arrange to have these done...otherwise I have heard they will charge you for the service if reprogramming is done after delivery. I am just now digging out my old pre-delivery email request to the dealer, because they did not actually inactivate convenience opening as requested and I have, on two occasions in the last month, arrived back at my MINI with the windows and sunroof all half-open because the key button on my pocket was pressed inadvertently!! Lot's of folks like this option though!

Don't leave the dealership until you've personally tested all of the programmable options which you've specified. If something doesn't work as you want, get them to fix it on the spot or get it in writing that they will fix it later at no additional cost if they use the ever-popular "we're waiting for the new software to arrive" excuse on you.

Otherwise, be prepared to pay your selling dealer or some other dealer at least $50 to get things re-programmed later.

Hopefully you won't discover, like many of us have, why these should really be called inconvenience options!
