Will astro black be offered for 2006 mcs

Has anyone heard offically or non-offically if astro black will be offered on
the 2006 mcs since they dropped the jet black? My feeling why jet black
was dropped was not that they were not selling enough of that color but
the fact that it was not a premium color ($420). Any info would be apprec-
iated.

I'm guessing no...that's what it seems right now. We'll have to see. Since Astro Black was a new Cooper color last year, they may keep it as such and eventually extend it to other models, but most likely after 2006. On the other hand...Solid Gold, Silk Green, and Velvet Red were Cooper-only colors and stayed as such.

Keep in mind, too that there have been examples...painful examples...of colors being extended to other models in the UK and elsewhere, but not in the US market. I'm thinking of Electric Blue, but I still can't talk about it.......

I bought my car a month ago. I wanted a black cooper specially since I was told that were going to drop the black color altogether.
I feel quite lucky to have grabbed a black one specially since its not going to be made anymore...it adds to the value and I love the color.
Really lucky, went to the dealer and as I am checking out the cars I see the Jet Black mcs being delivered to the dealer...nice!
I am keeping this one!

I love our red on white MCs but today in La Jolla I saw a black on black MCS that looked really great. I don't know if anyone knows aboiut 06 yet. If you've got your heart set on a color available now I'd say go for it.

Whoda thunk we'd be considering Jet Black a discontinued MINI color. Sorry, the reality is just now sinking in. (...what would Henry Ford say??)

I think Jet Black was discontinued simply because it reached saturation. Just like other very popular colors, Indi Blue and Electric Blue, there were just enough of them around. It is a common strategy for automakers and does make sense on some level.

What'll be a real shocker is the day Chili Red goes bye-bye. btw, I do like the new colors...can't wait to see them in person!

they will most likely not drop the astro black. The details about the 2006 changes are pretty good I would say, at least to the point of color changes.

also, i remember someone saying it's based on decrease in popularity, but it's possible that it's due to oversaturation.

Just like the no-additional-cost anthracite headliner, I suspect Jet Black will disappear for awhile and then suddenly become available as a $500 "lifestyle" option.

It'll be ballyhooed by "back by popular demand" or similar marketing malarkey. The one thing Mini USA is actually good at is marketing. (Unfortunately, that's about the only thing they're good at, but that's another thread...)

This is the real question...right now it is a Cooper-only color.

umm why black? because when it is nice n clean, it looks HOTTER than anything else IMO...I got my Jet Black because I didn't want the same color as everyone else.. and plus it has the twincharger, even more special. Now tell me, who else has a JB/B MCS sport and cold weather package, Xenons, HK, Silver n Black Cloth seating harnesses and a twincarger?

Just in case someone really, really needs a Black John Cooper Works Mini, there is a used one for sale at my local Mini dealership, Sytner BMW/Mini in High Wycomb, UK. However you won't believe the price $45,000.00 that's no joke.

I am sure if I look hard enough people are getting taxed over here to go to the bathroom

Black cars in the sunbelt states are a big no-no. They are too hot in the summer and harder to re-sell. Still, all black MINIs are gorgeous cars but not in this climate. Black cars demand constant washing/detailing otherwise they'll look like crap. Any scratches or imperfections can be seen from miles away. It also cracks me up when some people demand black cars but they don't take care of them ever, so what's the point?

If you live in a colder northern climate, a black MINI is a no brainer. For the tropics, I prefer the brighter colors.

And also you get taxed on your TV set

Got to love the socialist system in Europe. However, the have a public transportation infrastructure that we can only dream about.

C4, parts of their public transportation could be considered better than some of the areas we have in the states but they have just as many problems as we do. For instance just this past week the train from the town I live in that goes into London, a section of the line was destroyed becasue a tunnel collapsed on it, luckily no trains were running through it at that moment! I will say this, the people are much more polite on the public transportation than they are in states. Just hope though you don't get stuck standing or sitting next to someone that doesn't believe in bathing

Why black? Let's see ... it's classic, it's unique, it's beautiful, it shows off the MINI like no other color and doesn't look like every other MINI on the road. Astro Black rocks.

I would love to have MCS black on black, but it's hard enough to keep my EB MCS clean as it is w/ the UK weather.

MGear... What part of the outskirts of London are you abouts? I'm not in the London area, but do make trips down there w/ my mini. Matter a fact I'm heading to Surrey (minispeed.co.uk) tomorrow to have them install my Alta pulley; 150 quid w/ new belt.

Just curious, cause it's nice to see another US Spec mini outside the Air Force base, especially a Works.

thats ok, i dont like having a spotted car.

unlike most of the people on this site, i DRIVE my car more than 5000 miles a year.

i dont like stone chips on my hood, so red works out pretty well, although now that i look back, i shoulda gotten a silver or PW mc to cut back on some of the chips, but CR still doesnt show much.

well, i'm not getting a clearbra, id rather repaint my hood every two years, it looks rediculous on CR. it jumps out too much for me.

as far as chips on the CR goes, the only ones i see are on the hood between the grille and headlights, common on all coopers, and those are hardly noticable.

and its good to se some people drive these things as daily cars, and not weekend drivers. i got mine late feb and i'm pushing 8100 miles. (and ive got about 100 miles till my first scheduled service, according to the service computer upon startup lol)

i dont know where your from, but where i'm from i see waaayyy too many black, gold, pw, ds and BRG cars. i'm not a fan of neutral or earth tones. LY, CR, EB and HO are my fav colors and i''d never buy a car that would blend in with the crowd.

A plethora of red, yellow, and BRG MINIs is what I see around here. Seems that most everyone gravitates to the more common colors. Very few Astro Black or Jet Black. But...different strokes for different folks, whatever floats your boat.

Here is my '05 MCS bonnet with the VentureShield Clearbra kit:

Line? What line?

I feel sorry for your car. You prefer to repaint every 2 years? Wow! your resale value will go down the toilet

Too bad you haven't been exposed to a "true" invisible clearbra like the one from VentureShield. Very hard to see the line and I'll be happy to send you close up pics and you still will be hard to press to see it.

I prefer avoiding chips in the first place and preserving the original factory paintwork. And yes, my MCS is a daily driver, FYI.
