MCS exhaust on an MC

Ok, so i'm finally in the market for my mini, although not getting the S as i hoped i'm still getting a mini . Which means i have to try that much harder to make it stick out more. I want to get a custom exhaust made for my mini when i get it. I don't want to run the risk of the exhaust sounding like s**t and modifying an MCS exhaust would be the easiest route. So the question is, would an MCS exhaust such as the invidia or borla race (my favs) fit on an MC without major modification. The tips of the exhaust will be cut and they will no longer be in the center so thats not an issue. Thanks in advance for any input  .

*edit* I will also be putting headers and test pipe (no cat) -> if that makes a diff. And also, how much do the WORKS tips cost? i really like how they look with the engraved WORKS logo.

Here's a pic i photoshopped of what i want the exhaust to look like when it's done. While i'm getting the rear bumper cut and painted (black trim) i think i want to cut the aero kit "grille insert" and put a mesh grill like the M7 so that you can see the dual exhaust. <- any input on that??

thats quite a task, i dont know if modifying the aero kit is worth it. mess it up and your in the hole at least 600 bucks

the aero kit black trim is part of the bumper and doesnt come off, FYI

If you take it to a body-shop they can easily cut a hole in the aero kit without any problems.

Instead of getting an MCS exhaust (which i have heard doesnt work on an MC...i think), why not get an MC exhaust that looks like that has dual outlets...like pictured....and than cut off the supplied tips and add the dual tip look you want

http://jetex.co.uk/Jetexwebsite/laser/cliocup_mini.htm

OR see if their MCS exhaust will work...it looks like this:

Well to be honest i hadn't seen that exhaust for the MC which is why i just thought of getting an MCS exhaust. All the work will be done at one of my friends body shop where i can get involved because i'm more of a hands-on type of guy but i will only be helping, all the real work will be done by the pros. If anyone has any info about an MCS exhaust fitting on the MC... does the MC have a battery in the middle like the MCS?? By just looking at the two cars i don't there should be a problem fitting an MCS exhaust onto an MC, nothing a little modifying couldn't fix i don't think. O well, i guess i'll be the first . So please, if anyone has info about an MCS exhaust fitting on the MC it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

*edit* i know the black trim is part of the bumper... i'll be getting all the black trim body-color-matched as well as the chrome trim around the window, the hatch handle, and the headlight rings, door handles will be painted white to match the mirrors and roof. (yes, i hate chrome)

The European Rear Valance for the '05 MCS has dual pipes that are separated as pictured.

Make sure you find out about "Back Pressure" from the mod as this will affect the exhaust porting and dynamics of the ECU tuning. Might Void your Wty ???

I modded my MC to a MCS...

I took half of an MCS exhaust (just like you were talking about doing) just the right (passenger) side can from a Borla Street exhaust and had the exhaust re-routed to the middle.

It fits great as the factory hangers are still there, you have to bend a few of the heat sheilds out of the way but it all goes together pretty smooth.

Now for the bad news, not sure if I'd do it again. The Borla can cost me $200 for just the one side, the exhaust tip cost $65, muffler shop charges for pipes and such, $125 so I've got way too much in this mod. I think I would have done it different so it wasn't so pricey.

I've always liked the idea of two exhaust tips, but I am hesitant to cut up the bumper. That web site has a system that has dual tail pipes with either a single or a double tip.

Too bad you can't install that without cutting the body.

The MC battery is up front under the hood. The only thing is, you might have your spare tire back there....but only some cars do

kesh420: Yea it'll void the warranty but i don't mind losing it. Like i said earlier my friends dad owns a bodyshop so if anything extreme goes wrong i could get it fixed there.

BaldBikerGuy: Have you had any problems with your MCS exhaust on the MC ?? Also i was thinking more along the lines of keeping both cans of the MCS exhaust. Is there any particular reason why you only used the right can?

Morris9982: Yea it is a shame you have to cut the bumper but it makes it look much nicer and much more unique. I'll be leaving the car with people i trust so the only bad part is the money issue.

RallyMINI: Thanks for telling me about the battery. Do you really need a spare??

Any ideas as to how this will affect the backpressure from the exhaust?? Haven't put too much thought into it since it's basically going to be an aftermarket exhaust with re-routed piping (after the mufflers) to the desired spot.

of course you dont need a spare....everyone has a cell phone now-a-days You'll be saving weight as well once you get rid of the spare

i'm still looking into the backpressure issue. i only want to swap out mufflers, but i dont want to hurt the performance at all. i'm gonna experiment with a used MC exhaust for the time being.....

If you are looking for a MCS exhaust, go to the next pulley party (like Randy Webb's) and you'll be able to probably pick up one for free. Check on line first to see if anyone will be having an exhaust installed at the same time as their pulley (like I did). The only problem would be, you'll need a pickup to get it home since the old exhausts will not fit inside a MINI.

As far as only one can goes...didn't really see the need to go "full" MCS exhaust. I only wanted the look and a little more growl from my MC.

I've got the Borla Sport on my MCS and I don't want that sound out of my MC. The MC is my daily driver and I put about 60+per day on and like it a little more quite. Also the MC only has heat shield on one side so I just went with the side with the heat shield.

BTW: spare tire went quite some time ago...no need for the weight

Oh ok, I thought there was some sort of problem fitting the other side of the exhaust on. Other than the fact that theres no heat shield on the driver side for an exhaust can to go, would there be any other problems for fitment. I'm assuming that i'd need to fabricate some sort of a hanger for the driver side muffler can.

Oh and i won't be using the stock MCS exhaust, i want to buy the MCS Borla Sport and modify that.

Overall this should make for one very loud MC trying to stand out in the mini crowd. How loud does the Borla Sport get with a header and no cat? Something like obnoxious (dunno how to spell that) or just very raspy? Thanks.

I'm sure it would be loud and illegal(no cat).

Without a cat, it might get almost obnoxious...atleast for you inside the cabin. you could keep the cat and remove the resonator for a louder, but more legal exhaust.

I would think that it will be expensive to use an MCS Borla Sport exhaust system ($760? see http://helix13.com/html/products/pro...ew.php?p=7&h=m). Less if you can buy each part only but still it will be close. Talk to Eric at Helix13.com, he distributes the Borla Sport.

Next, for every MCS I know of that has an aftermarket header with NO cat the exhaust note with an aftermarket exhaust is/can be VERY LOUD! Most of the time it becomes unbearable as a daily driver and it is removed by the owner. If it is for track use only then it might be OK.

For MC owners that want a good sound and not excessive noise try looking at remus, rspeed for the MC, or Milltek for the MC.

The MC does fine with a single sided exhaust - when switching to a dual exhaust you get more weight and different back pressure which may not be ideal for the MC engine- try talking to Randy Webb (webbmotorsport) or Eric savage (helix13). They have both seen lots of modded MC exhausts.

In the end to get a dual exhaust system with dual tail pipes on both sides looks nice but will be expensive and a bit tricky. There is room. If this is for show purposes it might work, but if for quiet non obnoxious sound and good performance it might be questionable. Leave the resonator on the center pipe until you can hear it. Good luck.
