[HAWAII] 2005 SuperLap Series Reminder
[HAWAII] 2005 SuperLap Series Reminder
This Saturday, June 4th, is the fifth of ten 2005 SuperLap events. The sixth event will be on July 24th.
The new format allows for 70 continuous minutes on dial-in laps (you go on and off of the track as needed) within your time group (similar level cars). The Time Attack portion has one car on a track at a time and the best of two or three times will be recorded (the last lap allows you to fly down the long portion of the course
). All times are recorded via on-board Longacre timing system, which can be rented (some of us own our own systems). It's definitely a safe and excellent opportunity to see what your car has - good fun!
Currently we have bgrpph, eastsidemini (sometimes), erik808 (may have retired and moved onto Solo1 only), and dakinemini as the only representatives for the MINIs - could use more MINIs out there.
We pit in the middle area (same place as Solo2) and now use the same gate as Solo2. Hope to see some new faces this Saturday! If eastsidemini shows up, you can hear and see firsthand what the M7 AGS is all about!

Can you tell us-
What time do you have to be there?
What time is registration open?
What time do you finish?
How much does it cost per event?
Where do I find the results of the standings for front wheel drive cars in the same class as the MINI?
How much does it cost to rent the timing system?
How much does it cost to purchase the timing system?
Are there different classes for stock vs modified cars? or does a stock MC compete head to head with a modded MCS? No handicaps?
Are there helmets for rent?
Will the concession be open for lunch/drinks?

Here's a link to the Super Lap site : http://www.superlapseries.com/
Q : What time do you have to be there?
Q : What time is registration open?
A : Gates open at 7:30 (same gate as S2) and driver's meeting doesn't start until around 9:00; however, to get a good spot it's best to be there are 7:30. Registration is at entrance. You MUST have long pants on.
Q : What time do you finish?
A : There is an event (drags) after SL so we are usually out of there by around 3:00.
Q : How much does it cost per event?
A : It's either $75 at the gate. Spectators are $10, however, it should be noted that ride-alongs are allowed (as long as passenger also has helmet and long pants).
Q : Where do I find the results of the standings for front wheel drive cars in the same class as the MINI?
A : See the website listed above and go to the results section.
Q : How much does it cost to rent the timing system?
A : It is $20. The timing system is only needed if you want to participate in the Time Attack portion at the end of the day
Q : How much does it cost to purchase the timing system?
A : This depends on the quantity in the group buys. The first group got theirs for around $154 but the second group was $175. It's the Longacre timing system.
Q : Are there different classes for stock vs modified cars? or does a stock MC compete head to head with a modded MCS? No handicaps?
A : Here are the classes - Limited AWD, Limited RWD, Limited FWD, Unlimited RWD and Limited FWD. Both MINIs compete in the Limited FWD category - the 2004 season's Limited FWD Champion was our own bgrpph!
Q : Are there helmets for rent?
A : Yes there are - $10.
Q : Will the concession be open for lunch/drinks?
A : Didn't know a concession existed on the track but as in S2 - NO. Because of the way the format is set-up, it's easy to know exactly when you will run and therefore you can leave the track and not have to worry about missing your run.
Some other notes :
- As in S2 bring the sunscreen, bug protection, a hat, and plenty of liquids. Not a bad idea to bring a chair.
- Many times the Formula Ford folks are running in between the runs. Awesome to watch!
- If time permits, a sort of "fun run" is allowed. Last event bgrpph and dakinemini were the lone cars running in sync around the short course. We swapped cars and had loads of fun! One of the guys watching said it looked like a scene from Italian Job.
- If you have roll bar/cage, sometimes you are allowed to go on the long course with the wheel-to-wheel folks.

He's a good guy and a great driver with a sweet set-up.Nah, that's Jim Cohn from Kona that's by the cars. He started the Hawaii SCCA and is one of our instructors. He came down to the Spring Fling and I lent him my MCS for the CCC as his wife was driving his. I later found out he had all this track time and was an old time racer so with the blessing of the other instructors, he was brought into the instructor ranks.
Another Great Super Lap
Well it was another great day at Super Lap. Mr. bgrpph showed up with new Konis and while he thought he was running slow, he ended-up up posting a time near his best ever time. Way to go Barry!
During the Group A morning warm up session brgpph was giving a Race Truck a hard time - the truck had too much pride and would not allow him to pass and got a black flag (for ignoring the pass flag) and had to pit. I have this whole segmant on video but when I downloaded it to my laptop I found out it was 723 MB!
Maybe erik808 can host it for all to see - it was amazing watching the truck pull away in the straights but bgrpph was on his tail at every corner!
Today's turnout was not as big as the last two events; therefore, we were allowed two warm up sessions (75 minutes in the morning and another 30 minutes) for a total of 105 minutes of available track time!

for the site to update because they include an article. BUT, some cool photos are up from both June and July Super Laps :June Super Lap photos : http://www.imagestation.com/album/in...?id=2123171473
July Super Lap photos : http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2123174616
I missed July's Super Lap due to a technical difficulty
but eastsidemini and a MINI track-newbie were there along with another strong showing by bgrpph. For June's Super Lap, MINIs were only bgrpph and DaKineMINI.(Note to bgrpph and/or eastsidemini : can you guys do a little write-up of this month's SuperLap?)

Next one coming this Saturday
Sept. 24, 2005 - Super Lap (7 out of 10 for 2005) will be held again.
The usual cast of knuckleheads (bgrpph, eastsidemini, and dakinemini) from NAM will be there.
Oh, and Mike W. (MCS Solo2 in GS) will be there with his supercharged G35.
Pray for sun!

It was a HOT one!
Another huge turnout! The J&N folks were out there with their VIP trailer and a few Elises and a lone Ferrari. It was fun chasing down and passing the Elises!
They mostly stuck together but one still managed to spin out in the sweeper (I think it was the guy that the_beastmaster knows, who was selling his Lotus 7). Our track killer bgrpph was at it again and chasing the lone Ferrari who was in Group 1 with us (see attached photo). Many groups, clubs, and speed shops were present. Mahalo to the one group that gave us water when we ran out!
Although eastsidemini showed-up, he did not run - he was still breaking-in his goodies (Cosworth head, ported SC, ported intake, cam, alcohol/water intercooler sprayer, etc.) but stopped by to say hi. Mike W. showed up with a new surprise - he removed his SC from his G35 and installed twin turbos. He delivered another hot run! Bgrpph was his usual consistent self. Baronious showed-up in his Civic and was simply AWESOME, as usual, breaking the 41 second barrier and winning the Limited Front Wheel Drive category. Congrats BL!
Another HOT but FUN day at the track.

Because that's the only place (other than Turn 1) the MINIs can catch the fast cars, plus Barry's got skills on the track (excellent choice for A500 MINI instructor

gonna stop by the LCC show to support friends first, though...
