[HAWAII] 2005 SuperLap Series Reminder
Weather's suppose to be nice so it should be a great day tomorrow!
I better load-up on the Poweraide so I don't get dehydrated again!
Are we going to see your uber-modded ride on the track tomorrow? Cool! Can't wait to see (and hear
) that custom side-exit exhaust of yours!
Bring a helmet (and long pants/closed shoes) and one of us (bgrpph, eastsidemini, dakinemini) can take you for a spin and help you forget about Xbs.
Oh, kekilee, don't laugh too hard at bgrpph's "Chinese take-out" font numbers.
(Just kidding Barry.

Dirk, The superior aerodynamic capabilites of my numbers are responsible for the tremendous speeds and g force that i pull. They stay put on the car, as opposed to those haole looking numbers of yours, which don't stick and end up being run over by everyone on the course. Guess you were going for the tire mark look, yah !!

Lol, hahahahahah.
Yeah, I wanted that Avon Tech R mark for customization. See you tomorrow morning man!
Had a great day at superlap yesterday with several new drivers and a bit smaller field than in September. Weather was beautiful and not too hot. Super lap folks were responsive to request for format change- each group had two 30 minute practice sessions before the main timed event, a change from the one 75 minute session, as well as track time after the timing. I used full tank of gas & had to stop for gas to make it back to HI Kai.
One unfortunate incident with a Lotus, in same spot as the July incident with another Elise-- just after chicane.
MINI represented by Dirk, Andrew & Barry. Come on folks, lets get more MINI's out for the last 2 superlap sessions of the year (November 20 & Dec 17). We all had great time running the short course. JN folks were there with a half dozen Lotus Elise and their luxury trailer. The open wheel folks were there in force. Edgar brought both is Datzun and Porsche, Mike Truolla had his Z06 Vette & Turbo Porsche.
Mike Ward left his MINI at home and ran in his Infinity G35 (which had his new Turbo tuned & huge 11.5" wide rims with Hoosiers). He finished #1 in Limited rear wheel drive Group A with a 39.18 squeeking out a win ahead of Mike Truolla, the normal frontrunner, in his Z06 Corvette who ran a 39.2.
Dirk ran his best time yesterday (42.5)-with his new Hoosier R3S04 205/45-16 & his OBX header.
Andrew was there with his new M7 Cosworth head, M7 trick supercharger and other run fast goodies and ran very well putting all this power down with Prada street tires.
I ran my best time ever (41.15) with a first place finish, mainly because Reid moved from HI, Barry Lai didn't show & Lincoln Loo had car problems.
Come on fellow MINI owners come on out for the next super lap on November 20.

Oh yeah, yesterday was great!
Cool breeze, not so hot, and I didn't forget my big-size Poweraide! Also, thanks A (eastsidemini) for bringing the tent!
The one event before, I had a small chat with baronius (BL) and he basically said trust the MINI's capabilities and go for it. So this time I decided to brake as late as possible in both turn 1 and off-chamber; although it felt like I was going slower, I actually had my best time of 42.33 during my practice run!
B (bgrpph) don't forget about A's new custom twin-exit exhaust! Looked awesome! Definitely the best looking MINI on the island!
All you auto-xers better watch out! Mike Ward said he's planning on buying two new MCSs (a full JCW with LSD for him and a MCS with LSD for his wife). I was asking MW about his karting experience and he was telling me he was really into it and ended-up going international and even won an Asian championship! He was cooking his brakes yesterday but showed his skills with a quick time attack run.
J&N not only had their Lotus folks out, they also had two Maseratis, and of course their big air conditioned trailer.
The Lotus crashing before the off-camber was the worst incident but there were a few good spinouts too. Luckily no one was hurt and all was well.
Brgpph - another nice time attack for you!
Oh yeah, almost forgot, Super Lap is adding a long course portion for those with Solo1 gear. Those who had a minimum of a roll bar got to go out to taste the long course. Any MINI without a sunroof - erik808 still has his roll bar for sale!
P.S. - cwlouis, I KNOW you want to come out and stretch your legs; hopefully, your ride will be done before the next event and you can come out.

It was so much fun and to be able to withness D & B driving skill. These two guys are fast
I have so much to learn from them and looking forwards to future events. I encourage every mini owner to come out and experience and learn what the car can do (under control of course)
WTB- used track tires (R compound) 225/45/16

I support this keikilee production. (edit : keiki, sorry I stole your logo
)
Sorry for the conflict on dates
Seems there are never enough open dates to plan events each week.
For those that enjoy Superlap we can accept donations for food and toys for MINI to the Max at the dealership (see Randy or Robert) for the week before Nov 20th. Just drop off your donation with our big thanks to help those charities. We'll transport everything dropped off early on Nov 20th to the MINI to the max event and add it.
For all those thinking of going to Superlap you can come by our Nov 20th event and drop off stuff, attend the meeting at 11am and caravan on out to superlap.

Superlap folks thinking of attending on Nov 20 will need to be there between 8-9am, check out the site http://www.superlapseries.com/ Be sure to wear long pants, closed toe shoes & bring a helmet. Cost is $75 and you do not have to work the track !!
The gates open by 8am with drivers meeting around 9am. Normally there are two groups with Group A on the track by 9:30 for half hr, then Group B, then Formula Fords. This then repeats. Timed event is around 1pm with more track time afterward.

hey yall, i have auto x'ed once and i was thinking of doing the superlap thing. I have to admit though im kind of nervous, my MINI is only 4 months old and i have heard bad stories about the brakes and brake fluid incidents with pushing the MINI on the track. any suggestions or am I worrying too much?
im putting a stage II brake kit on it this week, but im still not sure. I just dont want to wreck the damn thing, and i havent really pushed it with braking and stuff.
casey. treasurer.

After attended a BMW driving school events in 03, I was hooked on running the track. I began attended the SCCA Track Day every other month or so, during the wheel to wheel races. Then I heard about superlap last year. I also heard the negative from some folks and horror stories about this group. They're not true. Yes there are accidents- but there are accidents at driving schools also. There is always some risk on the track. Ask an experienced driver to go with you, learn the line, your car's capabilites & gradually increased as your ability increases. You can go as slow as you want on the track. Just be aware in your mirror of faster cars & signal them, so they can pass (only 1 place on the course this is allowed). After the 1st time you'll be much more confident.
The MINI handles wonderfully in stock form. The only item you actually should change before superlap, is the stock brake fluid. Flush the system with ATE Super blue fluid which you can get HI Import Parts, BME or other places in town. Then bleed brakes after every few track days. This will help prevent fluid from boiling. Stage II brake system may help somewhat as long as the pads are track/street pads but really isn't necessary. I ran for a year before getting Wilwood 11.75" race system that would fit my 15" rims. I did use Ferodo 2500 pads before switching to Wilwood.
You can also just come out and ride with another MINI driver to see the layout, etc and not even take your car on the course. Come on out, you'll enjoy.

Congratulations to MINI owners Barry R. (bgrpph) and Mike W.
Mini’s run 1,2 in Limited Front Wheel Drive class
............Reigning Champion, Barry R., turned in a solid 41.11 scoring ten points in his quest to repeat for the title. Barry now has 42 points, just eight behind Reid, and has pretty much clinched at least 2nd place in the season standings after the damaged motor of 3rd place contender, Lincoln L. Lincoln was unable to compete in Time Battle and improve on his 22 points. Mini driver, Dirk M., had a great outing and shaved half a second off his previous best time moving solidly into the 42-second bracket taking second place for Round 8 and finds himself 6th in the points...........
Mike W. edges past Mike T. in Limited Rear Wheel Drive class
In the upset of the season, Mike W. snuck past Mike T. by .02 seconds to ruin Mike’s chance at a season sweep. The winning lap of 39.18 overshadowed a similarly impressive lap by Tom B., who stepped up in class, and also managed to attain the elusive 39 -second lap. Mike W. has consistently improved throughout the season and the 10 points he earned adds to a total of 35 and vaults him ahead of, not only the misfortunate Terry N., but also 2nd place, Egmar K. Mike T. has won by a wide margin throughout the season, but today was an awesome display for the G-35 and the RX7 of Tom B. who was close in 3rd just .55 seconds back.............

Another hot but breezy Super Lap today. No major accidents and everyone made it home, so all is well.
The usual MINI folks were there (eastsidemini, bgrpph, and dakinemini). Barry put in another good day but barely lost out to a speed shop sponsored CRX. Andrew ended-up off roading and had some cosmetic damage (poor M7 lip
) but came back to post an ever improving time attack result. I didn't do as well as the Oct. event but my re-run managed to allow me to stay ahead of the green MCS from Kailua.
BTW, a black MCS with white top and rack showed up at the end of Super Lap. Not sure who it was - they didn't bother to stop by and say "hi".
Here's some photos :
1) Setting up in the AM (dakinemini and bgrpph).
2) Mike Ward (G-stock MCS in Solo2) accepts his 1st place medal (limited rear wheel drive Group A) from Oct. Super Lap.
3) Barry (bgrpph) accepts his 1st place medal (limited front wheel drive) from Oct. Super Lap.

so sorry
--So sorry guys I came out there to bring out some food to my DSM friends and check out the racing for the first time. I was going to come over after the award ceremony but then everybody tore out pretty quick for the final practice laps. I watched Barry lap everyone and everyone lap that white Caprice that wouldn't let some people pass.
My buddy Kevin in his ION Redline shaved off a second from his lap time from last month.
I watched in awe as Barry ripped around and around the track and I said to my friends, " I wanna be that fast when I grow up!"
Too bad that CRX tuned by Sonic disrupted our MINI lineup on the podiums tho.
I had a great time out there. It was a beautiful day for racing today.
I promise to come visit everyone in the MINI camps next time around.
