R50/53 About stalling
About stalling
In almost 2 years and 50K miles my 03 MC has never stalled, holds a solid idle, and starts on the first crank every time.
I started this thread to not take away from the problems others are having on the new sticky thread. The problem must be real, and is not to be taken lightly.
In my opinion,a 02 is still a new car,and this problem should not be happening.
MINI should stop testing the software on owners, and just get it right.

First off, there is a possibility that Canadian market MINIs have a slightly different ECU programming from US market cars, but I could be wrong.
Both of my MINIs start on the first crank, no problems. After sitting for 10 days, upon our return from Canada the cars started and idled fine. However my '05 MCS has been experiencing the "Idle dip" upon start up, but not complete engine stall. After the first incidence, it runs like a champ.

Nice that you said please though:smile:
C4,I don't know about the software, but we had no recall for the emissions upgrade. My last upgrade was about 6 months ago,and I was told it was mostly to let the car talk to MINI CND. for diagnostic issues.
The switch here to summer gas happened about a month or so ago,and the only thing that happens with that to my car is that my MPGs improves about 5%
So far i think everybody who has responded to the other thread are all MCS owners and not Cooper owners?????
They would definitely have completely different ECU programs.

Most seem to be MCS owners, but some are MC owners also.
I also wonder if our fuel quaility may be better?Any other Canucks out there with this problem?
Hey Kenchan,I use my left foot on the clutch,my right is the go foot
Many factors play into the improved MPG in the summer months.Fuel being one,but also less warm-up time, which is a must at the extreme temps we get, less wheel spin because of ice and snow, and the ASC kicking in,plowing through snow, though fun, does add alot of drag.
Kaelarie,I will start a thread on any topic I feel like,if a Moderator does not like it,or moves it,I will respect that choice. If we did not start new threads centered around a subject, the threads would be 100s of pages long, and the main topic would get lost.Maybe I should have called this thread"Don't have a stalling issue, anyone else"

I think that US/Canada emission regulations are very similar but the EPA seems to be adamant about these issues, hence our on going problems with the ECU software.
I wish MINI would unlock the Siemens EMS2000 source code and allow the aftermarket to resolve these problems once and for all.

There was an story in the press here awhile ago about a fellow who moved from Spain, shipped his MINI,and was told he could not use it here because their standards are lower.Guess he should have done some research

I just checked with my tech.Carl, and he tells me I have v39 loaded in my car.
When the temps are below -10F,I turn the key one click, wait for all the lights on the dash to clear, fuel pump prime, then start the car. This works down to -45F
Yesterday I hit 300 KM[186 miles]on the first 1/4 tank,a new record for me.
99% highway,going 75 MPH,turning just over 3k RPM
