Hey Dude, Nice Ride!

I have gotten this twice today? It's hilarious because I got both of them from bikers as they were waiting at two seperate stop lights. It's a nice day and there was a bike rally at the local Harley dealership and I passed them on the way home from work, over half of them gave me the peace sign/biker wave as I went by. It is so awesome how people react to this car!

Anyone ever have experiences like this?

Mikey

Yes, it happens and it's SO fun!

Then there is the headlight flashing from other Mini drivers... thats my favorite thing to do. Flash my lights - or high beams. Flash and wave! Hmmm, that sounds nasty... flash-n-wave!

I haven't heard "Hey Dude, nice ride" yet, darn it. But, I love the way people smile at the car (and me) when I go through drive-throughs (like at my bank).

I thought you had the mph function up on your tach, HOLY CRAP 218!

Anyway, yes I love how when your sitting at a stoplight and people come up behind you, read the *** (Actual Size Sticker) laugh point and smile as they pass me. With the way our society is now a days everyone should follow a MINI like mine at least once a day!

Hey, that doesn't surprise me too much, Mikey. Hoosiers are real car guys, and they know a thing or two about racing and its history.

When I had my '93 Rx-7, the car nuts went gah-gah over it in Muncie.

My husband and I were discussing this topic the other day because it seems that bikers are especially attracted to the MINI. Perhaps it is because they are in the open, and their reactions are not easily masked behind a windshield. Or perhaps they are more likely to be admirers of unique/unorthodox vehicles because they are riding on one themelves. Whatever the reason,

One of the great things about the MINI is that it does get a reaction from people. Right now there are other threads about people being offended in some way when passed by a MINI, or feeling the need to challenge MINI's to impromptu races. I've had this happen. But I've also had a lot of positive responses. The positives come from all types of people in all kinds of vehicles, and they outnumber the negatives two to one.

It all contributes to my philosophy that the MINI is a fun car, and I'm going to have fun in it.

There is a common connection of some sort between bikers and MINI drivers (I'm both!). In fact, just yesterday I saw another MINI with an AMA sticker on the back (no, not the American Medical Association, the good AMA, the American Motocyclists Association!). When I drove my mini to an AMA flat track event last summer I got lots of bikers coming up to my car to ask me about it. And they were serious about their questions; they weren't coming up just to poke fun at it. Maybe it's the vulnerability thing (small MINI/exposed bike), or just the outlaw nature of MINI drivers...

Bikers

All my biker type buddies love my mini. I am thinking about building a custom (tiny) trailer to tow my bike to Sturgis (my old lady gets "crampy" at the idea of going "two up" for the eight hundred miles), so my custom Warrior towed behind my S might be cool....

The two groups I seem to get the most 's from are bikers and high school kids (I'm 40ish). It never fails that when I'm at a light in town and a bunch of Portland High kids cross in front of me, that at least one gives a thumbs up. It cracks me up that I'm cool with high schoolers.

Bikers have always "gotten" the MINI! They see that it's a go-kart and can out-handle their bikes in certain situations, and respect that. Many of them acknowledge us at the Dragon, which got its start as a motorcycle resort, and which has welcomed the MINI with open arms!

I have gotten thumbs-up from bikers all across the country as I roadtrip in Wanda! It's also nice to get those smiles from them, too!

Yep, bikers know a good thing when they see it (Ex-biker, maybe for good now that I found out how much fun a MINI is). The one guy at work who said "Nice ride" when he saw my MINI was sitting on his bike at the time.

Um Kenchan. I think XAlfa was referring to your sentence structure. LOL - it kinda looks like you're getting goosed a lot by older gents!

ALL the time. And by such a huge array of people, too. Men, women, teens, senior citizens, snobby, redneck, you name it. There aren't too many MINIs in Akron (I see another once in awhile), so it's still a unique thing to see.

I can totally see a commonality between bikers and MINIs. I'm not a biker, but I think that bikers are appreciative of uniqueness and the handling abilities of the cars. I mean, can you see a biker giving a to a Lexus SUV? I think not.

Leon, don't count all non-flashers as rude...

I've had my MINI for 3 months now, and I'd say that half the time I go to flash, or return a flash, I end up squirting my windshield. Then I usually look away and try to act like that's what I meant to do . Maybe we should count a "squirt" as an alternate wave LOL.

What's your point? Are you too imature to realize that the MINI is a car for all ages?
