R50/53 I'm Back. Wisdom & Experience Gained!
I'm Back. Wisdom & Experience Gained!
So after much thought and lecture from my parents, I'm am back on this forum. I'm sure there are those out there who would rather see me not here, or rather driving something else, but that's just human nature, you form opinions stuff and I can see why you think this.
Whenever I come on this board, I'm mostly looking for moral support, since all my friends want and do stupid things (ie: my friend jumped out of a car yesterday, don't worry, the kid was only going 5 in a closed off area.
), and since I don't get it from them, I try to get it from here, with you guys. I realized, even though it came off kinda harsh, you all were just trying to help me. I really appreciate that.
Truth is, over the past week and a half since my vow to never come back, I just truly miss this place, the commradery, and bond that we all share. I keep thinking that despite our differences (and my immaturity), we all come together because of this odd little smiling car. I just want to be friends with everyone and make them happy. That's all. So I apologize, say thanks, and offer my hand in friendship to everyone here on NAM. I think you'll find that I will have some interesting threads coming, and I hope you enjoy and respond to them.
Thanks, I Love U Guys!
BTW I did get caught, and punished for speeding ( my last thread), by my parents who seem to watch everything on this website.

 Welcome back! It takes a lot of inner strength and courage to admit to yourself your failings, but especially to come back onto a forum and do so to the rest of us here on NAM. I am very proud of you for coming back and sharing your feelings with us!
Enjoy and motor on!

Everybody makes mistakes Chili. Personally I thought your enthusiasm was a good thing. Perhaps you are a little more open then most, but thats refreshing too. Through all your trials and tribulations you do seem to be learning a few things and thats also good. Carry on!
Don't sweat it Chili. There are always people who'll give you a hard time.... Some of it is good natured and some of it is just mean-spirited. Just ignore the bad as much as you can.
Please be careful out there Motoring. Personally, I'd be more concerned about a young or inexperienced person exploring the MINI's handling abilities than I am by you inadvertently exceeding the almighty precious speed limit while getting yourself out of a sticky situation. MINI forums are the only automotive enthusiast's gatherings I've ever seen with such a vocal group that adores arbitrary speed limits, but since I have lived most of my life in a jurisdiction that makes Roscoe P. Coltrane of the Dukes of Hazzard seem honest by comparison, I am not in that category. This past week, we have had two local officers busted for DUI. (One was even in a cop car.) See the links for the sordid details.

Anyway, you seem like a really decent young man. Keep your chin up, and stay with us!

Hard to keep it a secret if it's posted on the internet!
And congrats to your folks for caring enough to lay down the law when it's warranted.I'm glad you've decided to rejoin the NAM community. Now that you're mastering the art of driving... I'm looking forward to your OT posts when you start dating!
Welcome back
Inner reflection and self actualization are what set us above other beasts. Besides if we weren't making mistakes we wouldn't be living on earth now would we. Welcome back. If we don't learn from our mistakes we're doomed to repeat them.....
Not sure if it is much consolation to you (and it is certainly a surprise to me), but I have driven my new MCSa on 2 short trips now (got it Wednesday evening) and have caught myself speeding about half the time. The first time that happened (on the highway about 3 miles from where I picked up the car) I immediately thought of you and your post. I was going about 73-4 in a 65 zone, but I could imagine doing 85 and not knowing. Not good.
I'm an old fart who has not driven (much) over posted speed limits. The MINI is quieter and much more solid than my previous car (that revved nearly 4000 at 70 mph). There's a lot of traffic in the SF Bay Area so diverting the eyes frequently to the center console is not as convenient as I had imagined. I realize that with a MINI I have to be more vigilent than usual (it's not like a Honda or Volvo). So in the 80 miles I have driven it I have been learning how to judge speed with the tiny tach--perhaps you have learned to do so by now as well. I ended up driving a lot at 2000 rpm (top gear--it's an automatic).
BTW when I picked up my car (a group drop at University of Santa Clara organized by NAM's Chief Charlie) 5 other NAM members were there to cheer on us Newbies (for Chief Charlie it was his 4th?). Such nice people. And informative too. I could not imagine owners of other cars doing that and enjoying it. What a group! Worth re-upping your membership for. I'm glad your parents were there to help you. Welcome back.

Welcome back, Chili.
If some of us come across as being harsh, it's simply because we care. We want you to enjoy countless years of trouble-free, fun motoring no matter what you might choose to drive. Never discount someone's experience when it comes to help, because experience is truly the best teacher. With you especially, school is in session. So many of us have been through it. So will you. Just remember these times, they will be with you forever.
Motor On (Safely and Fun)!

If you have the objectivity and intelligence to admit your mistakes, you're already ahead of a lot of folks who are older than you. But, take care of yourself on the road. Use that same objectivity and intelligence to recognize your limits and drive within them. You may get an occasional ticket. It happens, but it shouldn't happen often. The really important thing is that you live through, and learn through, your mistakes.
Congratulations and welcome back.
Congratulations and welcome back.

A thing that I just found after my "speed" incident is that there is a function on the tach that shows an "instant" digital speed. A great tool to use in a highly patroled zone or if u just want to watch your speed!
I had the car for almost 5 monthes before I knew about this!

no need to bring down an otherwise positive thread with your bad attitude
