Anyone know where minis that are totalled go? I was thinking that there should be a couple out there with good parts (including nice seats or H/K headunits) that would be cheap. I know insurance companies keep the cars, but what do they do with them? Just curious

 

I believe they sell them at auctions. And then it's off to the wrecking yards...or perhaps to be rebuilt.

FYI, the head unit is the same for H/K, it's the speakers, grills and an amplifier that differ.

I did a massive search a few months ago looking for both cloth seats and a aux compatible head unit. I found tons of junk yards (the junk must be referring to the other cars, not the MINIs ) and put in about 25 requests for more info. Not one of the places got back to me.

I've seen quite a few wrecked but repairable MINIs end up on Ebay. Actually, after mine was totaled, I was waiting for it to end up there. I want to know where he went... the insurance company never told us.

 

If you end up with a wrecked MINI, you may be able to buy the totaled wreck from the insurance company. I did that with an old Saab I had and sold the totaled car to a friend and made some $$$ on it.
