Not just a bump...

Has anyone purchased a boot handle directly from MINI? I assume it would come primed, rather than painted. Does anyone know? Also, does anyone know about compatibility of boot handles from prior than 05 with 05 MCS?

You know what you might think about doing is painting it.

It's actually really easy to remove, and you can just sand it down with some 180 grit and then give it a few coats of black automotive spray paint. I've done that with a few pieces on my car, and they've turned out pretty well.

I sand it with 180 grit real well, then put down a couple coats. Then I sand with a finer grit sand paper and do another couple coats, or until even. I used SEM Automotive Paint in Trim Black, found and your local paint store. (Recommended to me by 'Lagston' here on the boards)...

Try it out!!

I bought an Indy Blue boot handle and had it painted black. Swapping the handles took me about 20 mins (including re-assembly of the black handle after painting). The advantage of painting a spare over painting your own is that you can take as much time as you need to get it done and still be able to open your boot.
Do NOT close your boot while you have the handle disconnected.

Good thought! And I like Agro's advice as well. (Agro, your yellow-n-black gem is part of my inspiration... and Lagston's got me fired up about dechromification as well!)

So now this thread has become "WTB: Any 05MCS boot handle"...

Any thoughts as to whether or not I need to find an 05?

Part # 51137074019

I just ordered mine from classic mini.

It comes in black or chrome. All other colors will have to be custom painted but we are in luck.

$48.60 was the price for an "out-of-state" buyer with $8-$10 for shipping.

Normal price = $60.75 (price was I was quoted by another dealer + shipping).

I'm excited! Woo hoo.

Ok obviously I misunderstood what I was getting as I received the item today.

To my dismay, this boot handle is not painted/clear coated but it is black...

So now I am debating whether or not to clear coat it....I kind of like the matte black look...but then I with all the dust and crap that settles on the boot I wouldn't want it to get SCRATCHED...so now I think I'll bring it to a local shop and have it clear coated....

I also orderd mine from Classic the inexpensive one is the primered one (just black plastic ready to paint)

the painted one (choose color) is about $100 more.

I've got a LY MC (MCS wannabe) and just bolted it on...looks good, the matt finish matches the wheel/bumper surrounds
much better than the chrome one...I'm not much of a chrome guy

I don't think the one we got is ready to paint, i.e. I don't think it's got primer on it.

I think it's just abs plastic.

However, I did exactly what you did and just bolted the sucker on.

Looks pretty good...Will take pics tomorrow....
