R50/53 Mini for gays
Mini for gays
I'm 15 yrs. old and will be turning 16 at the end of the summer. Do you guys think that I would look like a gay guy driving a mini. The reason I ask is because when I told this kid at school that I'm thinking of getting one he laughed and said don't get it it's a womens car. Of course this isn't going to change whether or not I am going to get one, but i was just curious whether you guys were made fun of at all for driving a mini.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...........
Sounds like your friend has some unresolved issues. Perhaps he's insecure in his own masulinity. Let me guess... he likes Hummers. Take a peak the next time you are in the locker room at school, betcha he has something to compensate for.

I can't help it. Insert terrible Hummer joke here " ".
As for the gay thing Drive what you want and be who you are the rest will take care of itself. And the Mini probably is a womens car since my wife keeps reminding me women are the smarter sex

not at all. the only comments i ever get at school are positive.
FWIW, I think it's only honest to admit that there is a perception among some in the general public that the MINI is a retro chick car (although it's not like it's the second coming of the New Beetle
). I know it's high school, and kids have a way of wanting to take digs at each other out of (IMO) insecurity, but you need to realize there is that perception. It doesn't make it right and it doesn't mean it's shared by a large number of people, just that if you're in that situation and you have friends that are telling you this, you need to be confident enough to handle it if you get a MINI.

... if this is the car that you want, then get it. if you would ever be ashamed to drive in it, dont get it. do what you want.
and no they are not girlie cars... (they can be... but arent!)

my rearview mirror!"
If I got paid every time someone started a "Is the MINI a gay car?" or "Is the MINI a chick car?" thread, I'd have my MCS by now.

Drive what you feel comfortable in. Ignore eveyrone else.
My baby brother drove my MINI to school a few times during his Senior year of highschool. He got tons of compliments on it, from both guys and gals.

the same thing happened to me in the last couple years with people who I have made mutual enemies with. I get the usual; oh that cars gay, from them but if i go over to the ladies table they all act like im austin powers.
A mini is not for gays if you make it look the way you want, in other words, even if you go with the normal cooper, let your imagination make the customizations, or just make it look good not bone stock. Then even I might question you. JK. Your dream of getting a car you love, is alot closer than him getting a hummer. BTW, hummers suck, it's like a huge square vibrator. The thing shook so bad when i drove it it took me an our to recover from the dizziness. I should know I live a little over one mile from the factory!

It wouldn't make you gay, it would make you a woman. Seriously any car you get, this kid is going to make snotty remarks. If his remark bothers you don't get one, because some other people would agree with him. I don't know if you have driven one, but in my opinion all other cars are "what he said"
One way I found to fix that girly car remark was to take my friends for a ride
. When you dive into corners at mach 1 they will change their tune. I also found that one or two 80# German Shepherds driving around with you can also change the cars image a bit
. If they can't open their mind a bit F'em (well maybe that would be counter productive to this problem
)

Nobody really "looks gay" except for my friend in the chaps and jeans with the butt cut out. . . .
"Do you guys think that I would look like a gay guy driving a mini."
That depends on whether you look like a gay guy when your NOT driving a Mini.
Seriously, when I was at Laguna Seca a couple months back I didn't see a single female screaming through The Corkscrew. All Mini Cooper S's, all male, all leaving various BMWs in their wake. Except a couple of hopped-up M3s of course.
But chicks do dig this car though, if that's a concern of yours.

There are all kinds of people that love MINIs: old, young, gay, straight, and in-between...we are the most varied demographic, I bet, amongst the various car-brands out there!
If you like the MINI, then by all means, get one when you can, and enjoy it!
Clover
if i get a dollar everytime some of my friends say how gay the mini is.. i'd have the money to twin charge by now!
again like everyone.. im a 20 year old male, and despite what some of my guy friends say how feminine my car looks... all the ladies LOVE it!
insecurity is his issue... then again, my friends who say the mini's gay all drive ugly fugly SUVs (one drives a CRV).. so what the hell do they know!
drive what you want.. if u buy a car to satisfy your friends then why not buy a car for them! buy a car for yourself

BTW, I'm 36 years old, I have a wife and two kids, and work heavy construction. I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 230 pounds and not much (
) of it is fat. In two years of MCS ownership I have never had one person tell me that my car was gay or that I looked gay driving it. I have had guys on Harleys and other custom choppers give me the thumbs up when they see the car.
The kid who told you that is an ***. In the future, avoid people who judge others by what they wear, drive, listen to, etc. You'll be much happier in the long run.
Not only will you look gay driving a Mini, you will very likely become gay, (if you're not already.) This actually happened to me. I was a totally straight guy with a wife and kids before I started driving a Mini and, by the end of my break in period, I had become a flamboyant, promiscuous homosexual. The great thing about the Mini is that it makes it really easy to hook up with other gay guys. A guy driving a Mini is just broadcasting his alternative sexual preference - no "gaydar" required!
Anyway, enjoy your completely gay car. The handling is sublime.
