So, if I buy a MINI, it would make me gay, huh?

Hmmm.

Too late.

I'm 16, I drive a Mini to school. Had no problems with anyone calling me gay[might have something to do with me being 6'4"]. All the girls love the car and many of the guys think it's cool. The guys think it handles well and they ask me questions about that.

HailUnc33,
I think you will look like "yourself" when you are driving a MINI.
I don't think that it makes anyone look more femine than they already are.

The MINI is all about excellent handling and performance at a decent price.
More men drive them than women and all of them have fun doing it.

Like Clo suggested, go for a test drive and see for yourself.

My young brother, BE STRONG!! MINI's heritage is a straight up RACE CAR CHAMPION!! I grew up in Germany, and over there red neck trucks, big nasty American cars, etc., are laughed at, and people are saying is that guy gay? I cannot believe how ignorant most Americans are when it comes to cars!!! One week in Europe, and you would see REAL bad to the bone cars!! Including tons of modified MINI's!!

Please young Skywalker, don't let some PUNK kid that has no clue what he's talking about steer you away from an amazing performance automobile!!

By the way, some younger high school friends of mine, cool young brothers, all think MINI's are SWEET!! Everytime I see em', they are so Stoked to check mine and my wife's MINI's out!!

Fight the REDNECK mentality, and make a WISE, MANLY decision, buy a MINI!! The fact that you are even considering a MINI tells me that you are confident enough in yourself as a young man, to not buy something to LOOK manly to others, BIGFOOT, CAMARO, MUSTANG, HUMMER, but buy a car that makes sense, and feels very manly to you when you smoke all of those stupid gas guzzler peices of junk that will be worth $500 shortly after purchase!!

Has your PUNK friend seen Italian Job? Has he even ridden in, or driven a MINI, or is he like most of the uneducated out there, that just make judgements without any clue of what these cars are capable of!!!!

MINI's rule man, and if you're not sure about the GAY thing, don't drive a MINI, because once you do, you will DEFINATELY want one!! Peace!!

Actually, I was gay and then I bought a Mini and now I am straight. Weirdest thing ever. On a serious note, I think this is a ridiculous questions but we all forgive you for being 15 and 1/2 --almost 16. Be yourself, it might actually be fun to be the only person to have a mini at your school. I was excited in dec. of 2002 to have the only BRG/BRG MCS in the neighborhood, but that soon ended. Anyway, if you let people like that dictate your life and make your choices for you, you will soon regret some (if not all) of your life decisions. If people like that continue to influence you, then you will be gay if you don't pay me lots of money.

My last car was an S2000. My girlfriends little brother and his friends (15 year olds) loved that car. But after checking out my new cooper S last week they love it too. I think one important point to make is that a Mini is not for the common crowd. Driving a Mini says something about you as a person. It speaks to a lack of pretension, individuality, a willingness to be cool without requiring the approval of others. Many people from all walks of life will crane their necks to look at your 'cute' car. But what you understand when driving a car like the Mini is that your 'cute' car has 20 cubic feet of cargo space, is reasonably quick, handles more like a super car than an economy car, is practical, quirky, and nearly universally appreciated. So to sum it up, don't worry about the opinion of a punk kid or two. If they want to make fun of you they'll always find something. You, as someone who has the above qualities, don't require their approval.

Just give your friend a little pat on the **** and say to him, "Oh, don't worry honey...you can come for a ride in my gay-mobile..."

He may or may not think the MINI is a cool car or a gay car...but if he realizes the you really couldn't give a rats *** what he thinks it will cease to be an issue.

Good luck.

...of course you could always get a paint job like this FHM MINI

I think that would be rather counter-productive to his whole concern, wouldn't it, V?

Seriously though, it's up to you whether or not you "feel gay" driving a MINI. Once you get the car, it won't matter to you if some tool thinks it's a "gay" car. Let him be ignorant, and let yourself have fun in your car. It's that simple.

Who cares. If your gay and you own a MINI I don't care.If you are straight and own a MINI,I don't care.If you are blue and own a MINI I don't care.
I do care if you own a MINI,and love the best little car built since the classic Mini rolled off the line.
Don't bother with the macho,take'em for a ride,make them wet their pants,show off thing.Not worth the ticket,nor the clean-up.
If you want one,and can get one, enjoy it for yourself, and those that know you made a wise choice.
The MINI does not look like any other car on the road,it stands out,and those that motor in them stand out,and I hope,MOTOR PROUD,gay or not.
I remember when gay meant you were happy, and coke came in bottles.

I have never heard anyone make the comment that the MINI looks like a gay persons car. That's funny! Most of my gay friends and clients drive SUVs but then again most of my friends and clients drive SUVs- gay or straight. What I hear most is the SUV people telling me I'm going to die if I'm ever in a wreck in my little car. Then I point out that their big old Blazer has the worst safety rating of all the SUVs and that the MINI has 6 airbags and a 4 star rating. That always shuts them up.

I wonder if the other drivers told Paddy Hopkirk he looked gay in his car
before he won the 64 Monte Carlo Rally.

Go drive a MINI and if you love it like we all do then you won't care what anyone thinks. And if you are able to get a MINI at such a young age, you're a lucky guy. Most 16 year olds are lucky to get their mom's old Camry so I doubt anyone will make fun of a MINI. If they do it is only out of jealousy. Be ready for the looks because the MINI gets them. I am always surprised that people go so far out of the way to tell me how much they like my car. The other day a couple in a M5 slowed down to wave, beep and give me the thumbs up. I was thinking that their car rocked but they were more excited by the MINI. The MINI is a whole different kind of car and it appeals to all kinds of people. In my town there is a white haired lady in her 70s that drives a CR/W MC with bonnet stripes and every time I see her I just wonder why my Grandma never had a fun car. You have to get on it to keep up with her in traffic too. Happy Motoring!

The great thing about the Mini is that it makes it really easy to hook up with other gay guys. A guy driving a Mini is just broadcasting his alternative sexual preference - no "gaydar" required!

Anyway, enjoy your completely gay car. The handling is sublime.

No matter what you do, someone at sometime is going to think you are gay. Sorry, if being thought of as gay offends you or anyone else. That is why it is best to not even care. I got my MINI for a high school graduation gift and a few weeks after graduation, I was back at school and the BAND teacher (whom I had never said 2 words to) asked me, "Hey, a MINI, isn't that an old lady's car?" Then he hopped in his PT CRUISER and went off to draw out some marching formations.
I'm sure some view my MINI as being gay and obviously as being an old lady car. Sometimes, people are just stupid, especially one's that drive PT Cruisers yet diss other cars.

Yo.

As you get older you will learn alot of things about life, and alot of things about alot of different people.

When you mature, say around the age of 24-25 (the actual age the brain becomes matured) you're going to think back to that day when one kid said the womens car comment about the Mini Cooper S, and you're going to say to yourself, "That stupid ******" and pity him.

I'm surprised how many people on here have no idea how ridiculous high school was. Was it really that long ago for you???

If you want a real non-gay car, go for the Morgan Aero 8 - my friend calls it the "titty-F* car". If you see it you'll know what I mean - I can't look at that car anymore without laughing my head off

Anyway, if you buy a car that'll make you self-conscious, you'll be miserable. There's not much worse than sticking out when you don't want to, and a MINI will definately make you stick out! (especially that FHM one, if you know what I mean )

By the way, at my high school a 16 year old girl had a brand new SLK, a guy had a Range Rover, and there were plenty of other examples. Don't be too surprised by the generosity of well heeled parents. That doesn't make him spoiled, either, so don't jump too far to your conclusions

I think the car your friend is referring to is a miata Just kidding.

My brother has a huge SUV and is a fireman. He is always making jokes, but when he stops laughing we both know who can kick who's butt.

I've known quite a few gay men over 6-feet tall! What does height, weight, or whatever, have to do with being gay?

And we have some fantastic gay friends here on NAM!

I am embarrassed by some of the posts in this thread. They are pretty unenlightened.

Nothing like the old "is the MINI a girl car" or "is the MINI a gay car" questions to bring everyone out to play!

Personally I think the MINI's bug-eyed styling gives it "personality" that kind of fuels the fire. However, it's also a unique car that's incredible to drive. I like it because it has sports car handling and is just the right size to meet my needs. It also seems to be a real car enthusiast's car, thanks in part to its "mod-ability" (don't try that on your SATs, kids!) and the (ahem) aforementioned handling.

Your friend is likely just jealous, and would find some reason to dis any new car you get (and if he doesn't, someone else will).

My suggestion? Check out several cars. Compare what you like or dislike about each car. If you choose the car that's right for you, and you know why it's the right car for you, you'll be immune to those petty insults.

And.... have fun!

Yea come to think of it, most of the gay people I know drive trucks, SUV's, or huge sedans. I know very few gay people that drive MINI's, actually.

...and just for S&G's, there's lots of stories I know where these two aren't necessarily hand-in-hand, LOL. Being rear-ended isn't a function of sexuality, but sensuality (or just learned behavior, but alas I digress....

Tell them that, yes, driving a MINI makes you incredibly happy. If they were thinking of something else, ask them why their thoughts run in that direction.
