Really glad to hear your reaction, as I opted for it on the MCS I have on order. I believe MINI is charging $550. My brother has had one in his BMW and really has sung praises on it.

Hi MiniHollad
I ordered the HK Stereo here in Southern California which added 550.00 to the price. I am glad to finally "hear" a report about the sound!!
I should receive my Mini about the 25th of January, so I will let you know

I ordered it! With these stories, I am getting very excited!
The "all-around" experience of the MINI is just unbelievable. And the experience is all from reading. Just wait till I get one and the number of posts that it will develop.

I second that. MCO is a really great emotional support. I even have a list of items that others have discovered as problems/problematic to have the dealer check out when MCS finally arrives.

scoobs,
I've got no doubt that the $550 extra for a H-K upgrade is now worth the $. Ditto the emotional support from MCO while we wait (CWFFC).
Great idea to have a master checklist of issues to verify at the dealer during the delivery process. Would you post it so we can builds on it or a PM? Thanks.

Excellent checklist. I was going to ask you about it. Also, we need to keep each other informed on delivery dates. Amy C is also my dealer at Cinci Mini. Isnt she wonderful or what. Sent me the Nav manual in the mail for free! Anyway, keep in touch.
Also, I have pre-programmed my GPS handheld for a route home from Cinci down US 42, down the river and horse farms. Should be nice.

the HK system is a neat dealer/factory authorized unit, but I believe your money is better spent with an outside company, a custom installation is the only way to go, better sound, more options and it will fit your needs more so.
To each his own.

>>Thanks. I'm really hopeful we receive great service from Cincinnati MINI's service department. Have you heard anything on the quality of their service department?
I have not heard anything. Other than what was read in the dealer rating system here in/on MCO. Alls good from there!
I am really tossing up the HK system with a custom system. I spend a lot of time in the car and may go with custom for the multitude of MP3 files that I have.
DOES ANYONE HAVE SUGGESTIONS ON CUSTOM Vs HK?

That's a tough one. There are so many directions you can go with a custom system which would reflect your needs, cash available for system, and other things.
I would definitely not opt for the HK upgrade as it is very much overpriced for what it is. I chose already to go custom and have done a complete custom install.
I used all Alpine and JL Audio components. But I won't recommend only those as their are many other ways to go.

I'm old fashioned.....BMW has been using the HK system for quite some time. My sources have had great things to say about it. Of course, my bias is that I have an Alpine in my Jeep Wrangler and, with the wind noise, ANYTHING would suck. Plus, the speakers carry some distortion. The HK, installed in a vehicle like MCS, for me, even at $550, is a HUGE move up. Just my thoughts.
>>I'm glad to offer what I have thus far...especially in hopes that others will add to the list. I would say, that since I started this list in August 2002, some/most issues have been resolved the further MINI gets into their production numbers. Here's what I've got that I will FAX to Amy Childers of Cincinnati MINI:
>>
>>1) Check on tie rod nuts and tires for proper torque
>>2) Check that wheels are torqued to 100.
>>3) Check all reservoirs, cable connections tightened.
>>4) Check for plastic (?) spacers that should be removed from springs.
>>5) Check to ensure hatch and boot are secured and can be opened.
>>6) Check for CD upgrades for alarm, throttle, cold start, remote, and other issues that others have stated.
>>7) Ensure that your MC(S) is programmed to reflect desires, e.g., daytime running lights, alarm, locks, etc.
>>8) Check on weather stripping on doors, windows, sunroof...e.g., does everything close securely? Is there wind noise?
>>9) Body control module tightened down?
>>10) MINI manual and touch-up paint?
>>11) Have dealer install Kleen Wheels to decrease/eliminate brake dust.
---------
Here's number (12): Check for the boot manual release cable.
Is (11) an issue or just an option to add prior to delivery.
Moderator(s): Suppose this reply should be moved to MINI Talk as "Checklist for MC/MCS Pickup at Dealer". Or something like that. Thanks.
Scoobs: Like you said it would be great if MCO members could help to build on the list. What is #13?
MINIHOLLAND, you did it to me!
I was so stoked about you seeing one at the dealership, I rushed out on Saturday to see it at my dealership too. But alas, I'm in the US, and my dealer kinda looked at me funny. At the time I didn't remember your screen name, if I had it would have made much more sense. So I guess it's back to waiting for me... :???:

$550 seems a little pricey compared to upgrading after market....for a few hundred more you get a killer system that blows away the HK, speakers are still a weak link IMO, but of course many buyers just want the price built into the car at the start ...

Well i did not see any subwoofesr, it could be they are stashed in the side panels
at the back seat i forgot to look in them.
but for sure there are not any in the trunk.
there is only an amp in the side panel in the trunk, that is all.
Now i think about it that sound i heard ould not have been produced without a sub, so it must be they are stasched in those side panels!
