Cleaning my white holies

Got my white holies ready for the summer today.I used simply green as the cleaner, and it worked great. The wheels came off last Nov.,and it was too cold to clean them then.I stored them in plastic bags, stashed under beds in the house for the winter. The outside of the wheels get cleaned at least once a week, but the insides had never been done.
I soaked the area I was going to clean for about 5 min.,then I used extra, extra fine furniture finnish scrubing pads to slowly, and gently scrub the rims.Lots of water to rince, then more gently scrubing, with lots of cleaner, and water to keep the pads clean. One pad per wheel, and new pads on the outside of each wheel.

Before and after

Half way done

The simple green at work.

I can hardly wait till they go on.Going in for my 3rd service on Tuesday, get the them to do the swap,as they pull all the wheels to inspect brakes and things.

Ditching the winter wheels.. thats how you know spring is really here. Nice work on the cleaning. Its sad, but I really want nothing other than to wax my wheels. (raises hand and admits to being a big MINI nerd )

Those white wheels just suit him so much better than the winter ones.

Getting some wax tommorow when I'm in the city.Being a MINI nerd is fun,it took 2 hours to clean those wheels, and it felt great

The white wheels do look better IMO also, but the black steelies tend to make Poco look tough

Those look great! The last time I did something like that was over 25 years ago, repainting big white-spokers for a Jeep!
My MINI'll have the shiny holies. They'll probably benefit from the same treatment.

Was cleaning my 25k (used) white S-lites in the living room the other night (with a sheet underneath) when the wife walked in. <- she kinda looked like that. Had swapped out to X-lite takeoffs (and waxed them BEFORE putting them on!)

After finishing the first one, I contemplated buying a set of takeoffs and selling these - would be a good return, time wise. That brake dust really sets in. There isn't a ton of it, but it definitely likes the left edge of the spokes.

Clay did nothing, but Meguiar's #2 did a job on it! Only three wheels to go, and the rears will be much easier. Whew!
Oh yeah, I'm a MINI nerd...

Try using Simple Green, worked great on mine on the inside of the wheels.
I wouldn't use it all the time, but once or twice a year, with a good rince after should not hurt.

Although I wouldn't recommend the Simple Green/Garden Hose solution in the living room, sheet or no sheet!

That's when the wife's expression goes from: to:

Even though I currently live with only my dog, I would not do the garden hose in the living room thing anyway Did wax them in there though

Simple Green on Paint???? Eek!

I've seen some nasty stuff happen by applying a non-paint safe cleaner to wheels.... Peeling away of the clear coat, staining, oxidization... I'd stick to a softer cleaner and taking a bit more time.

(The wheels look great, by the way)

I used the simple green WAY watered down, and rinced it off with lots of water. I too would not recomend this as a normal thing. But nothing else was working, so I took this step. Now that I have lots of wax on them, nothing sticks to them.
