Need info on Vanity/Personalized plates

I think the Mini certainly deserves some personalized plates so I applied for some and am a bit confused. The application says the fees are $94 for vanity and $47 for personalized. Now is that on top of the $78 I paid for initial registration?

I got approval for a vanity plate and they said I owe them $123 , adding on some fees to the $94. So I sent in an application for a personalized plate, havent heard back yet. I thought personalized plates were quite cheap in Illinois. Could someone clarify the fees.

And once you get a personalized plate, is it quite easy to change cars and keep the same plate or is that another ordeal.

Once you get the plate, it is easy to move from car to car. the only problem I've had is that the Illinois EPA is about 3-4 months behind the Secretary of State in their info, so when the cars are emissions tested right after a plate swap, things get screwed up.

?! Personalized plates are plates with at least one number at the end,
right? I pay the same price as regular plates on my personalized plates.

Perhaps you are talking about the plates with different backgrounds?
I think those are a little more because you are donating money. Are those
also considered 'personalized' plates?

Vanity plates are plates with the exact text you have with the option to
use no numbers... I think.

You are indeed correct.

"Personalized Plates have letters followed by numbers. Vanity Plates have up to three numbers only or up to seven letters only."

This link should help.

Hey FFD, what color are you driving? I'm the old lady (51) in the CR/B MCS, park a few days each week at the train station. Haven't done the special plates yet but you're right. The mini deserves them.

Hey, 51's not old. I never thought I'd say that ... but at 46 your perspective kind of changes.

Pssst .... Little secret for y'all. You can get personalized/vanity plates now on some of the specialty plates that were numbers only before, like the Route 66 plates. I just got my "MINI" plates delivered the other day, replacing "1233". So, check out the Peace, Education, Organ Donor, America Remembers, etc. ASAP. I think Gov. Rockin' Rod just did recently this to get more $$$$. The application that I sent in did not allow for this option, but the confirmation letter arrived and the plates thereafter.

In in CA....

And mine reads "DR OBNXS"

My wife drives our MDX and never takes anything out at home. Hers is "CARMOIR" and armoir on wheels....

The mustang is "SUMRNYT" and that's for night, not new york times! Convertables are more of an evening car, but Summer's Eve is taken by other products already!

Hi WriteStuff,

My MINI's a IB/W. Where do you take the train from? Around the Palatine area?

Live in Palatine and take the train from there. I regularly see a DS/B in the ramp. Also an IB/W that lives down the road from the station. Only see them parked--never with people!
