MCS aero kit... necessary?

Hyper Blue here,

No, I haven't gotten my Mini yet, but I'm counting the days...

I do have a question: if you want the black mesh grille for your hood, er, bonnet, do you have to buy the whole front apron of the aero kit? According to my dealership, Baron Mini here in Kansas City, you do. That cannot be right. I've seen lots of pictures on this site of Minis that don't have the aero kit, but they have the black mesh grille on their bonnets. Baron Mini charges $2,900 for the aero kit! I don't know what it is for just the front apron, but I feel like I shouldn't have to buy it. All I want is the black mesh grille. Somebody, please help!

Sincerely,

Classic auto Campus (a NAM sponsor) will sell you the parts one at a time. The bottom grill is special and only works with the aero bumper(but M7 makes a nice one that will work with your stock bumper) but the one on the bonet you can buy alone. They will give you a great price. Hope this helps

you are right, you dont have to get the whole aero kit to fit the aero grilles, but the middle grille must be modified to fit the stock slot...

outmotoring sells them... you dont have to go through the dealer, but to fit the middle grille you must need the dealer to do the modification for you

Hyper, here's a thread that will illustrate what happens to install the lower aero grill (at the top of the bumper) to an MCS bumper. It's doable, but not plug and play:

Good luck!

Not only can you do it as the other posts said, I know for a fact that Baron installed one..... on a fellow kcminiac's car. It can be done with minimal modification.

Check out www.kcminiacs.org this is the forum and site for the local mini enthusiast group.

To quote NAM member sright: "Classic auto Campus (a NAM sponsor) will sell you the parts one at a time. The bottom grill is special and only works with the aero bumper(but M7 makes a nice one that will work with your stock bumper)"

Who, or what is M7?

Do they have a web site address?

Hello there, I did that mod to my MINI S. You can order the parts from the dealership, something like $25. for the lower piece and $50 for the upper section.
Also have a black M7 lower grill, you can find out more @ m7tuning.com

James

btw, as far as the mod to the lower piece, you basically have to make new tabs to connect to the bumper facia. The tabs on the Aero kit do not line up.
