OEM Fuel Pump "rebuild"?
Has anyone found a parts source for replacing the OEM internal fuel pump?
Not the whole assembly but the actual pump itself.
Once again I'm finding myself saving and amassing a collection of OEM parts replaced from my 04 R53.
As an example; I'm holding onto my OEM CV axles as I hope to rebuild them someday....
I'm hoping to possibly rebuild or replace the pump mechanism/"motor" if possible from my old OEM fuel pump rather than just throwing it away. But if it's junk, then it's junk. ...and no reason to hold onto it...
Thanks.

After replacing my original fuel pump, I started disassembling it. I am amazed that the plastic and lock tabs still retained their flexibility (not one breakage) after 22years submerged in gas/solvent.
Pulling out the pump motor brought back memories of shopping our local Government/Army surplus store (Sky Craft inc.) - There you could find anything. I had seen submersible pumps like these before.
This had me thinking that perhaps cross referencing the specs from the OEM pump motor with, for example, "Mcmaster Carr or Grainger"...might lead to reviving an old unit.
These pumps ain't cheap .
And as we all have experienced at one time or another - "OE/OEM" seems to be roll of the dice these days.

Many years ago, the fuel pump on my Subaru Impreza went out and I didn't have much money to buy a new one. I was working at a Volvo dealer at the time and we were in the middle of a fuel pump recall, so the parts department had tons of fuel pumps that we had pulled out of cars. The parts manager let me have one of those pumps and I was able to get the actual pump unit out of the whole assembly and put it in my Subaru (I had verified the pump was designed with the same operating pressure as my Subaru). That pump powered my car until it got totaled in an accident a few years later.

Very cool turn of events - Other than your Subaru having been totaled. I wish I knew someone in the industry that had access to old /returned OEM parts I could make use of.
Anecdotally speaking; I find it rather interesting/ironic - While I spent quite a few years in the South scavenging good R53 parts from salvage yards, many if not all the first things to have been canabalized were Superchargers, front bumpers and dual Chrono-packs.
Now that I'm out here in the wastelands of the South West; the very first thing I've noticed removed from Minis out here are the fuel pumps!
Rather coincidental as it seems that that was my very first option to pull the pump motors from one of these junkyard units.
I connected power to my now deceased pump motor, via 12V drill battery, for testing. I can confim that it's dead.

Well, finding or buying a new OE or OEM fuel pump is not really the/my issue.
I just have a bad habit of throwing things away before I explore every possibly of fixing things.
