I have a 2002 Mini Cooper S and I don't know where to start. When I first got it it ran for about 3 months and I figured I would look into updating some things like coolant hoses and plugs and wires to a oil change and as I started doing those things I would find other things from the previous seller that had did some shady things just so a novice like me would think they were getting a great deal and no I can't get the car to start. I have a few fault codes and I have looked into a lot of them but don't know if any would be the cause of it not starting.
If anyone could send me some words of guidance that would be greatly appreciated.
I think I would start with the battery. These cars are finicky when it comes to (battery) voltage.
Especially with a no start condition - Maybe caused by a corroded or poor main ground wire connection located under the hood, on the front passenger side (next to/in front of the top engine mount). Undo the nut and insure both surfaces are bright and clean making good contact.
In my experience - The 5E xx codes pointed to an implausible steering or wheel sensor issue. May be caused by a bad wheel sensor or perhaps a dirty contact between the wheel sensor and wheel bearing/hub. (?).
As in my case; it was - It could also be that your alignment is off. A failing steering angle sensor or steering may need to be recalibrated.
But that shouldn't inhibit starting the car.
i don't know about those codes specifically, but i can offer a little general guidance...
you say it ran, then you worked on it, and now it doesn't. start with double & triple checking everything you touched.
.
for an engine to run, you need 3 things: fuel, air, and spark. that sounds simple, but there's a lot that feeds into that.
what did you do to the car immediately before it stopped running?
Googling the fault codes seem to predominately reference/correlate to a low voltage issue.
Again, I think I would start by checking your battery and cleaning the negative grounds...
None of those codes look familiar to me. Is this from a standard OBD2 scanner? Wondering if your tool shows the regular "p-" codes. Typically a no-start condition like you described can be caused by a lot of things.
I first thing I would check would be if you hear the fuel pump purge/pressurize when you turn the key on (not try and start). You might have to leave the door open so you can hear it. If you can't hear it, have someone bang on the floor pan of the car while you try and start it.
My 2005 had a dead spot on the pump motor that "fixed" itself when banging on the floor pan. It didn't quit all the time, but you never knew when you would be stranded. If the above works, you likely need a fuel pump.
