Catch can & cracked rubber PCV hose - vacuum leak?
Forgive me. It's early and I can't seem to reason with clarity.
I'd installed a catch can some years ago and recently for the second time while detailing my engine bay; I've discovered that at the ends of the connection points of the rubber hoses leading to and from my catch can show signs of splitting and crumbling. To the point where it is obvious that air and pressure are allowed to escape negating a closed system.
Question: Would this constitue a vacuum leak?
I see and hear no evidence of sound or decrease in performance. Usually my boost gauge would show signs of this (vacuum leak).
I'll be replacing the hoses but I just can't wrap my head around whether PCV hose/catch can leak can cause a vacuum issue.
Like I said - the car runs great - just trying to understand.
Thanks in advance for indulging my ignorance.

Yes. The hoses I have are specifically rated/labeled PCV.
Sourced and purchased by length from O'REILLY.
I'm a bit disappointed and surprised. I've never seen or experienced this kind of degradation. Sadly - Quality is definitely lacking in today's day and age.

My Catch Can is mounted within the vent side/ABS "fire wall" - essentially away from heat. Rather disappointing - I specifically chose PCV hose off the reel as opposed to the prepackaged stuff off the shelf. In response to where the ends of the hoses are routed; they are typical - routed just above/along side of the sparkplugs. I just calk it up to poor quality.
Stainless braided hose might look pretty spiffy as a replacement?

RE: vacuum leakage
i do not know the answer but bouncing around the WWW you'll see stuff like this were someone is running a breather filter which seems like it would introduce a vacuum leak but apparently not because the car was said to be running good --- makes me wonder?
RE: general degradation of goods
yes, such sad our state nowadays as far as quality goes.
the rise of name brands initially was like a guarantee of quality, back during the origin of industrial revolution, to identify a superior product to an inferior one, and delivering on that promise would elicit consumer goodwill & confidence of trust --- now now in the 21st century it seems that we've lost the ability (in large part) to trust a brand name simply because their name is on the label because bean-counters private equity business model has devolved into cheapest method for maximum profit & in many cases you come across the same product with a different sticker label name which are all made at the same place with varying degrees of QC oversight, but basically the mickey-mouse cheapskate cutthroat environment has diluted our collective faith and it is hard to know who or what to trust anymore . . .
. . . apologies for tangent haha,
now i'm thinking back to my Saab days when i bought some really nice hose for the oil cooler which was deffo worth the investment regarding price differential because those hoses never failed me & i never had to think about them again after installation besides the quiet satisfaction of liking the blue color along with the Aeroquip logo and giving them a mental headpat good boy old reliable vibe
Aeroquip is one of those old specialist companies whose integrity you could completely trust
Eaton bought them out in 1999, but they probably still make the goodstuff nowadays, altho i'm not certain because no recent hands-on experience
i am planning on adding a catch can at some point,
but haven't got around to it yet,
so i can offer no real-world experience relating to them.
