I havent seen much discussion on remote tuning for the N18 Motor or the CMS and I did alot of research and questioning of members here. The options most people know of for getting their Countryman tuned forces you to send out the ECU and wait a few days to have the vehicle running again, this wasnt something that was optional for me so I decided to put off a tune for almost a year. One member messaged me a few months ago and told me that @Lou@Prototype-R could do remote tuning, so I sent an email his way. Lou is a very kind, considerate, and generous person who has emailed me over the past few months, giving me whatever information I wanted and went above and beyond offering extra software at no cost. He wrote to me in detail in what was required for the tune, listed links with prices for everything, and ensuring I had every step down before going forward. I ordered the K+DCAN Cable mentioned and waited for it to arrive.
A couple months went by as life got in the way but I was finally in a position to get the tune I wanted. The night of Christmas Eve I paid for the Stage 2 Tune on his website, downloaded the QuickFlash software he mentioned in the previous emails. Using the K+DCAN Cable and QuickFlash software to extract the "stock tune" from the car, filled out his "Mod Sheet" and then I sent it off to Lou. I received an email within a couple of hours, telling me that it may not be done on Christmas, but would be done as quickly as he could. I told him I did not expect it done until after the holidays, and that I forgot to check off one of the options I wanted on the Mod Sheet. The day after Christmas I received the email containing the tune with a list of all the options and settings, including the one I forgot to check off.
I parked the car beside my bedroom window, hooked up the battery charger, grabbed a few USB extensions, and ran the wire out my bedroom window to the car. The software took about 7 minutes to flash the ECU, the first 7 minutes I didnt realize the car shut off and the software was stuck at the "preparing ecu" stage until I went out and checked what was going on. Once it finished I took the car out and was immediately surprised on how much better the car acted. The throttle response is much better, the car feels quick now and no more O2 codes. In another thread I mentioned a voltage issue I was dealing with and nothing seemed to fix it...but after the tune, it has sat around 14.7v-14.8v for the past few hours Ive used the car - even if this was the only thing the tune did, I would of been happy. I have dealt with Mario, RPMPower, Detroit Tuning, and WMW - all of these people have been a great pleasure to deal with but Lou seemed more personable, supportive, and his service was outstanding - which it has bothered me that I havent seen another thread for his services. I hope you guys give him a try in the future, he has earned my future business for sure.
I just realized this was the wrong forum FML...sorry.
