Mine died over the summer 2005, 185k - first time. I know it had a Denso brand. I got a rebuilt from FCP. They also have Bosch. See what you have. I suggest the same brand. I also did a new belt, tensioner, idler pulley. I think parts total was in the $500 range.

I bought the Bosch for my R52. Lucas is the older OEM on select MINI parts. TYC is the oem for lighting aftermarket for MINI. They were also oem for Classic Minis. Denso right now is all on back order for that part i can see their stock it out at the depos.

We have lifetime replacement so if it has issues down the road. So it comes down to budget.

Looks like they dont include core charges to you check out?? We show ours up front and note the core.

I am checking with MINI on the Genuine and they just ran out of stock in the USA and our site just updated. MINI has stock in germany but it is being blocked so no one can get it. Its nice that i have a direct contact at MINIUSA.

They said it might unblock in a couple weeks but could not guarantee.

Their has been a bunch of parts blocked by MINI, but they have stock in germany, I had seen a bunch lately.

Install the TYC - take the opportunity to rebuild the one that came out. Allmagauto also had used ones.

thinking the same thing, Sir.

I'd like to rebuild the original unit. might just keep it on the shelf for now. it lasted 160+k miles. not bad

thought about allmagauto, but I don't want to end up with a unit that is probably close to end of life.

If you do a rebuild I would be very interested in some photos and learnings.

I have a Bosch alternator with ~70k miles which is dead and needs a rebuild. I was thinking about replacing the voltage regulator and brushes but never done it before which is holding me back.

Probably not hard.

I bought this one straight from Denso, so it is factory rebuilt factory spec. They had a backorder so I purchased another and forgot to cancel. This was in the summer stored inside.

Wow! I bet someone did a repair and then did not put it back on at the dealer or something! Yep i bet that toasted it over time.
