I'm
I'm replacing the water pipe that goes from therm housing to water pump housing. This is the 2nd time I'm replacing so I'm going with the ECS Tuning metal aftermarket pipe with OEM mini o-rings. ( I know most people are going to say I need to go with the OEM Mini water pipe, but I'm trying this one for longevity) Is the side of the pipe that goes into the water pump housing supposed to fit flush all around or does it fit flush and then come out offset a little because of the angle of the pipe. Does this look ok?
I would say as long as the pipe is seated between the water pump housing and thermostat, the thermostat is fully seated and bolted up, and no leaks, you’re good to go.
FYI, the metal clip that holds the pipe to the thermostat isn’t needed once the thermostat is bolted up.
That's the way the last pipe was that I put in and I thought it was good to go but 9 months later it started leaking. I would like to find the specs of the OEM Mini water pipe so I can compare to the metal pipe but I can't find that info anywhere.
It’s possible the oring was damaged on the last one. Or just coincidence that the pipe started leaking.
I replaced my thermostat twice on my old R55 Clubman, and reused the OEM crossover pipe both times. Ran that car all the way up over 200k miles. I have an OEM pipe in my garage that was purchased the first time I replaced the thermostat that I’m not using. Where are you located? I could send it to you.
That's very considerate of you. I have multiple pipes myself. The one I took off was broke at the flange and it wasnt the OEM. Replaced it with a rein which is the one that leaked but wasn't broke. Your right, the o ring probably came loose. Then got a metal URO and I can't for the life of me get it to fit in the t housing and pump housing at the same time. Then got the metal ECS pipe 343mm which is the one I'm trying now but fits strange, so that worries me that maybe it's a few mm short. I also have a doorman plastic pipe that's longer than all of them at 353mm which I may try next to see if it fits flush on both ends. What would be really helpful is if you could measure it and see how long it is. That would at least tell me if the other pipes are the right size and it's just the way it's seated or if the longer doorman is actually the right one.
Man! Thank you for digging that out! It looks almost like it's 13 and 3/8 which would be 339.5mm. everything I have is longer than that which should work. Then again like you said, it's hard to measure because of the curvature to it. Google says it's 343 but I don't always trust Google.
