R56 FCM Recall Fix- Wind Noise?
FCM Recall Fix- Wind Noise?
Wanted to see if anyone experienced what I’m dealing with currently. Took my R56 JCW to a local MINI Dealership today for the FCM Recall. Fortunately there was no water intrusion and my FCM did not have to be replaced but as part of the recall they did replace a portion of the sunroof drain tubes. I immediately noticed a significant increase in wind noise, but my sunroof seems to shut all the way so I cannot determine what could be causing it. At highway speeds it almost feels like the sunroof might want to fly off, but I know it’s attached by the screws so I’m not sure what it is. Anyone else have this issue?
I did call them after I left. The service advisor informed me there was no need to remove or adjust the sunroof which makes sense to me. He was going to inquire with the technician just to make sure and let me know. In the meantime, I was curious if anyone else dealt with it afterwards.
Well I figured what happened and it was a simple fix....
After doing some internet searching I tried the sunroof reset that a few people have mentioned which is needed if the car's battery is disconnected which then could throw off the calibration of the sunroof. Thinking about the recall and remembering they had to open the sunroof to access the drains, they most likely disconnected the battery before they unplugged the FCM to check it. I'm assuming that's what caused the sunroof to lose its correct calibrated alignment.
Held the sunroof toggle towards the windshield for 15 seconds (key in but car off) and it starts the calibration process which opens the sunroof and then closes it in the proper position. Once I did that, no more crazy wind noise.
