I’ve searched but don’t see this particular issue with the PDC. Most of the time, but not always, the Parking Distance Control (PDC) on my ‘03 MCS gives a sustained beep tone as if I am in imminent danger of backing into something (only in reverse, of course). It’s a false alarm. If I take it out of Reverse to stop the noise, and put it back into Reverse, the beep may stay off for a little while, then come on full sustained tone again. It’s super annoying.
If I had been the original owner, I would not have ordered the car with this “feature”. But since I have it, I’d like it to function as designed. Ideas what is wrong and how to repair? Bad sensor?
Oh boy, I just had a look at reaolem. There are four sensors, painted to match body color. I know they're in the rear bumper cover. There’s something called a trigger contact. And there is a control unit. Can anyone tell me where these last two bits are?
I have those PDCs on my gen 1 and Gen 2 MINIs. Yes on the Gen 1 MINIs they are paint matched. Some people just get the black non painted ones. This is how you tell which one is bad, see the thread below.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll have to check, but I imagine that all the sensors are ticking, since I get the constant beep. I had skimmed that thread about sensors not working/no beep but missed the one post where someone else had a ‘constant beep’, and cleaning solved the problem. Thanks.
its bad and you got to replace the whole unit. I tried to reuse and fix one and it does not work like that. Their is a inner seal and once water gets into that they are shot and you need a new one.
