Cabin air filter, I think I messed up

Decided to change the cabin air filters before AZ summer on my 2014 F56s.

Pretty easy job except for getting them out but 10 minutes done.

I carefully looked at the filters I took out to check direction. The filters that were in there pointed toward the engine so I did the same since a mechanic put them in last.

But after checking google .. Not sure its correct. Do the arrows point toward the engine or toward the cabin. Ugh... Really don't want to damage them in removal but if it has to be.

Not sure why there is a direction. Its pleated exactly the same on both sides.

Thank you for any help !
Alex

In the commercial HVAC world, the arrow usually means air flow direction….

thank you. Unfortunately ... I don't know which way the air flows in this application. I would have thought from the cabin toward the engine but. ??

Edited to add
Sheesh so hard to find good info on the mini's in general google searches but after looking a bit .... They are in backwards and the arrows on the cabin air filters should indeed point in toward the cabin. Unfortunately the mechanic had installed them incorrectly and I followed suit. So for anyone coming along ...

Cabin air filters go in arrows facing the interior of the car. Now out to the car to crawl under the glove box again

Yup, you want the outside air filtered before getting into the cabin. Let the mechanic know so he doesn't continue repeating the mistake.
