Hood scoop chrome overlay?

Anyone have any advice on chrome hood scoop overlaps?

My body colored scoop cracked. Certainly not going to pay to paint a primed unit.

Why not just replace the entire scoop with a chrome one? I put a chrome hood scoop on my project Mini (though mine is a base, non-turbo model). Looks great.

A couple cautions though... the screws that hold the black plastic "grille" in the scoop were far too big for the holes, and shouldn't be used. I've also heard that the heat from a turbo engine can be hard on the plastic chrome layer. I have no idea, but am not worried since my Mini is normally aspirated.

At any rate, here's a video I did on my hood swap (including the installation of the scoop)...

The scoop I got (though it was aftermarket) was (IIRC) under $70. It's only been on a month or so, but is holding up and looking just fine.

The one I bought from @ECS Tuning It is an overlay with tape. Does that require me to remove the old one or just slap it over the cracked unit? It has 2 sided tape.

Hello,

Thats the peal and stick. Goes overtop. Make sure the old ones is clean and isopropyl alcohol might be needed if you have too much wax or cleaner on the paint of the original scoop.

Should be ok unless the hood scoop from the factory is really warped or wavy. Then i have seen people add more tap to make it seal.

Test fit it first to make sure nothing on the old scoop is jacked up.

Its not a true flush fit to the hood level. It sets up a mm or two over the hood line like anything that added on top.

Do you have an aftermarket that is not peel and stick?
