Front Creaking Over Bump

Hi Everyone,

My F56S has this rubber/plastic creaking noise only when going over speed bumps, no noise when turning or going over pot holes.

(The sound is similar to what I had on my E90 when the strut top mount went bad, I also read other UKL cars such as the X1 has creak noise from top mounts but the part is different from F56)

The bracket for lower control arm looks like it has been replaced not long ago, so was the lower engine mount.

I believe these were the previous owner's halfway done attempt in trying to address the noise, as the upper engine mount and transmission mount look original, they are worn but not cracked or anything.

All struts are original parts, the dust covers are pretty much gone but no oil leaks and handling feels good enough for its age.

I replaced the sway bar links but no change, they had some small tear on the joint skin but not actually loose.

I originally thought about replacing the lower control arms but they are tight when pryed upon, and people say they make more of a clunking noise rather than creak.

My mechanic (not BMW/MINI specific, I do most work myself and go to them for jobs that needs a lift) suggested it could be the upper engine mount and/or transmission mount, but the vibration is rather decent and I am not sure if they can make noise over bumps. My other F chasis BMW would just vibrate quite noticably at idle when the engines mounts went really bad, albeit it was a longitudal layout.

Any thoughts?

I haven't heard of a transmission mount failing or causing any noises. As for the upper engine mount, it would create a noticeable vibration and (if worn enough) an audibly noticeable metal-on-metal noise that's more pronounced when the vehicle is in reverse. Could be a bad strut mount. Not sure if you have already or not but it may be beneficial to read over this thread and maybe reach out to Davevolved and compare what you're hearing to what he experienced.

Hopefully this helps, sorry if it doesn't.
