Drivetrain Lower motor mount installed!
Lower motor mount installed!
Well, i decided to go get some alloy at lunch today, and proceeded to make a new lower motor mount. At 830 i went for a spin.
The good news: it works great. When i jab and release the gas repeadidly the car doesnt buck and heave like it did. Still alitle bit, but not as much.
The bad news: you can still move the motor by hand, there for i will have to make and upper mount (i was hoping i wouldnt have to, even tho i was prepared to).
The Mediocre News: Due to a design flaw (last minute change, teach me for not following the plans i made), it turned out to be a solid mount. Yes i did put some poly in there, but not as much as i would have liked, and there is a bunch of reasons for that (namely that i could get my hands on a bit bigger than 1 1/32, and planned on using a steele liner from another bushing that was 3/4, which after i had everything done turned out to be 7/8 or when i got the rubber off it, only the last 3mm on either end was 3/4. So there isnt much poly in there, but i figured it would do the job. I was wrong. That poly may insulate the bolt, but does nothing for the solid mount and the solid brackets at either end on it. So, for all intensive purposes, i have a solid billit mount. Its is noiser than all get out, alot of buzzing, but virtually no vibration to the car. Other than the high frequeny that is causing everything to squeek, and i cant leave my keys in the cup holder now.
Over all, fairly sucessfull, i am going to try to cheat tomorrow to see if i can get rid of the buzzing, its not my ideal approach, but i will have trouble getting the verticle bolt out, i kind of had to tap (or pound) it in. I dont really mind the noise, but i know some one who will!

ok,i have it to within tolerable levels now, the intersting thing is there is more vibration at idle, but far less buzzing everywhere else. From 2-3 grand, you cant see anything out of the rearview, and things inthe side view are a bit crazy, but you dont feel or really hear anything more than the little increased noise that is fairly constant. And even that noise seems to disappear at about 3500 or so. It used to last until 5500. Now i just have to change my fix from 40 year old cracking rubber to new poly, and it will be fixed. Now, i can take what i learned on this, and apply it my top mount.
Overall, i love the new mount, the sound on start up is incredible!

Awesome, this is usually what to expect when going to solid mounts. Just keep an eye on your oil pan now....IIRC the bottom mount also happens to mount to the same place as some of the oil pan bolts...If that is the case, watch for leaks due to bending parts...
hmm, thanks for the info, will keep a look out for that. After actually driving it around today, you hardly even notice the increase in noise and vibration. Drove it for about an hour i guess. Was really noticable last night because it was brand new, but after a bit today, you dont really notice.
