R56 Parts list for front-end reseal of the engine & cooling system
Parts list for front-end reseal of the engine & cooling system
Oil feed line is leaking quite badly and is getting worse on my N18, the "while you're in there itis" is strong, so I'm going to pull the front of the car off and do the whole kitchen sink. I own this car for driving this car quire hard in the canyons, so I'm willing to do what it takes to make sure it works properly and can survive that environment. I have found a few coolant leaks and the plastic on the expansion tank is yellowing, so I just want to get the whole system in good shape, and I can't think of a better time than during this major service.
I have a list of parts here, is there anything I'm missing? Any gaskets or washers or other stuff I should replace?
Thanks a ton for the input and advice.

I'm also considering doing the motor mounts as part of this. Are there are only two mounts? Upper and lower? The parts diagrams only show two and I can't find the third. Going with a stiffer poly lower mount to keep the engine rotation in check.

Looks good, most of those parts we have in some of our kits we make which are on sale right now, so the total price is lower.
You dont have to go genuine MINI all the time. You can use elring, mahle, and others That should save you some money also.
Cool trick if you pop the oem MINI part number into this site search box you can find me/other talking about the DIYs and what we found on install.
Example: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...rchid=21054792 with part number 11428643747
This one i would do the metal impeller: https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/11517648827/
This one i would do our brass T sitting of the metal upgrade: https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/11539845352/
This one i would do metal : Thermostat housing
This one i would do metal : https://www.ecstuning.com/Search/Sit...h/11537589713/ I have the black one on my car right now and its been their for over a year now. Its a one and done.
Hope that helps.
Lots of other places dont carry the metal upgrades like we do.

Cool thanks for the reply. I have a that partial kit for the oil lines (missing the gaskets), but I didn't see any other kits for the other stuff?
As for the aftermarket - my problem with going to the aftermarket is while the half price is alluring, I don't know which parts are made well and which parts are half price because they're made to be half price. Not that this isn't a problem with genuine parts... But I have less confidence. Some you can get away with it, some you can't. So for the most part I just like to shotgun genuine parts, unless I have it on good authority that the replacement passes muster (or is an OE part sold as a brand name). There is so much labor involved, I do not want to do this stuff twice.
The xover pipe I've already got on my list as your metal one. Added the brass fitting, that does seem like a good idea. That's where one of my leaks is coming from (as is the bottom of the coolant res, and somewhere on the thermostat).
One last question - sorry if you missed it - but is there a third motor mount? I for the life of me can't find it and it really seems like there should be. I can't see it in the engine (so much **** in the way), and I can't see it on the parts diagram unless I'm being stupid which is entirely possible.

You should consider doing the "friction wheel"... that's the device that transfers power from the water pump pulley from the OUTSIDE of the serpentine belt (odd arrangement, to be sure). The one on my 16X,000 mile project car was getting pretty noisy.
There are really only two motor mounts - one on the right fender (obvious), and one underneath - also obvious, and hanging out in space where you can't miss it. There's a third transmission mount on the left fender, and its configuration depends on the type of transmission (and probably other things). You'll have to remove a lot of electronics to get to it (and maybe more - my car is a base model, so no turbo stuff to deal with).
You might consider the valve cover gasket (not difficult) and the oil filter housing gaskets (if you're going to have all the other stuff out of the way anyway...)...

Ahh yes that is one item I saw and forgot to include. I saw that in some teardown videos. Good call.
I have a manual transmission, I found some transmission mounts for the F body Mini's, but nothing for our generation. The realoem parts diagram doesn't have anything listed for transmission either. Do you have parts numbers? I have the 6 speed manual.
Yup oil filter housing gaskets are included in my parts list. And I've already done the valve covers, spark\coils, pcv system and boost diverter\blowoff valve. Thanks for your input!

Rockauto has several choices for my 2013 base model... don't know the specs (year, mainly) on your Mini, but I'd look there. Just look under "Transmission", "Manual Transmission", "Transmission Mount".
Looks like the turbo and NA models use the same tranny mounts (makes sense)... the ones for my 2013:
ÜRO PARTS 22316784355
ANCHOR 10087
VNE 4009767

BOOM that's it, I knew there had to be a third mount that needed to be changed. I think my mistake was not putting my searches into ECS or Rockauto like you said, and only doing it in RealOEM.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Watch those other places as they like to cross up chassis and catalogs, sending the wrong parts as they are cataloged wrong. Just a heads up. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...or-hose-2.html

I agree with ECSTuning about not taking rockauto (or really, any vendor) as gospel without doing your due diligence. Mini seemed determined to make their model / version switchovers as complicated and confusing as possible, and there's no way in the world that there won't be misclassified parts from lots of vendors, particularly those who aren't Mini-specific.
Then is there a parts diagram website that does the job of RealOEM better? I like to look at the diagrams visually and pick up parts from there, as I might not know the specific name a particular part goes by.
As for wrong parts catalogued wrong, I agree I do not trust rockauto. I trust the fitment guide on ecs & fcp, I go through both when checking prices and make sure their fitment guides approve of the part.
