R56 hard start with misfire but good fuel pressure
R56 hard start with misfire but good fuel pressure
So I just bought my first mini. I thought I had done my homework. I read through all the forums about what goes wrong, and checked all of those issues when I looked at the car. Now, just about a thousand miles later when I start my car in the morning it starts right up, but the rpms Jump between 500 and 2k. Going so low as to ALMOST stall but hasn't stalled yet. After 10 seconds of this it levels out and it's fine for the rest of the day. Full power. No more rough starts. No out of the ordinary noises. I hooked up a scanner and the ECT is about the same as ambient (~50F) both in the morning with the issue and later in the day when I start it again without the issue. Fuel pressure is always around 700psi. Only codes I get are p0300, 0301, 0303 which I know are random misfire, and cylinders 1 and 3 respectively. I recorded my 40 mile trip home with some live data scanners and the averages were as follows:
Speed: 55mph
ECT: 142F
Voltage: 14
Intake manifold pressure: 18 inhg
MAF: 3 lb/min
Intake air temp: 42F
Fuel rail pressure: 932 psi
Car Info
2009 MCS
N14 engine
Miles: 138600
Previous owner seemed to keep everything OEM, even down to the Run Flats (that I immediately replaced because they had 3/32 of tread left which was just asking for trouble here in Pennsylvania). No service records, but Carfax car care app shows it was inspected yearly at a local BMW dealer, with no service notes, and judging by the mileage data and EZ-Pass Velcro behind the rearview, the second owner was a long distance commuter (first owner put barely 35k on it, second owner racked up 100k in the last 5ish)
Just ordered new plugs and coils to put on it to see if that helps, and gonna throw a bottle of techron in it next fuel up. Other than that, any other suggestions to try? (I'm also taking it to have the recall fixed next week so I can see what the dealership says as well, but unless the have the car overnight, the issue won't present itself to them)
