R60 R60 Passenger airbag matt sensor
R60 Passenger airbag matt sensor
My passenger matt sensor has gone bad. I have searched for the replacement sensor 52101755393 and have not been able to locate one. What are you guys doing when the sensor goes bad to replace it? Thanks a lot for the help!
I've had the same thing. There have been recalls out for this but unfortunately my 2014 isn't a part of it and should. I have looked into plug in emulators and such to bypass it so the bag will still function but they don't seem to work well. Just live with the annoying light. The replacement part cost (if you can find one) is crazy expensive as you'd expect.
Hello,
Here is all the information: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ensor-mat.html

Thanks for the information. I have read all the post on here about the sensor matt. . What I can't believe is the part looks like it's been discontinued. I tried the emulators and they did not work for my daughters car. Can anyone confirm that you can go into NCSExpert and turn off the system by deactivating the OC3.
Only other thing is the actual replacement of the full seat bottom with the VIN.
NCSExpert dont know about that as it defeats a safety device.

Let us know if you end up replacing the seat bottom or mat etc. Would be great to know if anyone has any success with this issue.
Our Seat Occupancy Sensor is different type than the 2nd generation R56 MINI. I have no experience with bypass emulators, but they would need to be compatible with the CIS type. The MINI training literature has the below text... oh, and it looks like the Airbag module (MRS6) may want to know the mat has been replaced based on the last comment.
CIS Mat
An automatic deactivation of the airbag is provided in compliance
with the regulations of the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration NHTSA. The child seat listed in the regulation (for
an approximately one-year old child on the front passenger seat)
must lead to the deactivation of the airbag. The seat occupancy
mat is used to classify the occupants for this function.
The R60 uses a CIS (Capacitive Interior Sensing mat) instead of
the Occupant Classification 3 mat OC3 used in previous MINI
vehicles.
The CIS mat consists of two elements, a sensor wire, which runs
parallel to the seat heating in the seat cushion, and an evaluation
unit. The CIS mat measures the capacity and the ohmic resistance
between the sensor wire (anode) and the ground of the
vehicle at a frequency of 120 kHz. The CIS mat uses changes in
the capacity and the resistance to determine whether an adult or
a child is in the front passenger seat.
The deactivation of the front passenger airbag, side airbag and
knee airbag on the front passenger side is signalled by the indicator
light for the front passenger airbag deactivation.
The seat occupancy detection function monitors all of the inputs
and outputs. Possible fault statuses are stored in the fault code
memory of the MRS6 control unit.
Note: Refer to the Repair Manual for the initialization
procedure for the CIS mat replacement.
