"pretty" cover

Good Day Gents, Does anybody know if the Pretty Cover on my B-46 has anything to do with Air Flow ? As far as motor cooling goes ? Think there'd be any difference in use of thermostatically controlled fan wether it's operated with or without Pretty Cover ?

I believe it is the removable plastic cover with the Mini Logo that covers the top of the engine. I personally would leave it in place.

THAT is precisely what I'm talking about. The square, plastic, cover on top of the motor where you put oil in motor. Mine has the JCW Tune Kit 228hp on it. It attaches on 4 little posts with rubber inserts in cover. Do you think it really has anything to do with directing the cooling air ?

I doubt it does anything meaningful. Take it off and see.

It is just decoration to make the engine bay look cleaner. Some people take it off, some people paint it.

The part is referred to as an "acoustic cover" in various bits of BMW literature and parts documentation. That would imply that it is there for sound management -- presumably quieting, like resonator tech.

Doesn't mean it does a ton. Doesn't mean it matters to everyone or even most people. But if you want to know what it's for, the name of the part itself says plenty.

Also obviously there for aesthetics as noted by others.
