Intermittent rough idle, power loss, stalling. HPFP?

Been having a rough idle, power loss and sometime stalls intermittent issue. Never on cold start or continuous driving. I commute to work and back without issue. Only after 10+ min of stop and go traffic or multiple engine on/offs like running errands. Only happens at idle. Usually at a stoplight. Engine light comes on and idle gets really rough then sometimes stalls. Always goes into reduced power mode. Start it back up and it’s drivable.

I finally caught it on the scanner. Using a Foxwell i70BT. I am not able to upload the live data video? Happy to email it or if there’s a way to upload it. But basically at idle, desired is around 700-800psi, actual will drop to 230ish psi or sometimes hover around 500. As soon as I apply throttle the psi comes up the match desired. Shut the engine off, wait 10sec and start it back up and it runs fine. Only code is 2880 (high pressure system), sometime will also have a 2745 (Multiplicative mixture adaptation)

HPFP? Just weird it never happens on cold starts. On cold starts it gets to desired psi in 3-8 seconds.

Ive replaced the fuel filter, LPFP and the current pump it a rebuilt unit from the guy in Canada.

When I bought the car I needed a HPFP and hardly started after many tries. Because of this I never drove it far so not sure if this issue existed before replacing all the fuel components.

Both codes implicate a low fuel pressure problem, so the HPFP would be a strong candidate.

Mine [R57 base] developed almost exactly symptoms [without the fuel pressure readings] over the past couple days.
Threw a cyl 4 misfire code & is only really there at idle or very light throttle. Anything over 3k rpm & it's fine.

I would replace the fuel tank filter and the sender as well as the HPFP. I did the same for mine when it had these issues and progressively got worse over time to the point where it would no longer start.
After replacing it all it fired up without issue. Make sure the HPFP is OEM from FCPEuro or other trusted sellers. I went through 3 HPFP because I tried used and cheap alternatives, after that I bought one from FCPEuro and it actually worked.

Is the HPFP in the tank?
Apples to oranges, but my dad's Focus has a LPFP to feed to the engine, then a HPFP under the hood.

And, I'm not seeing any listing for a HPFP [for a 2010 base Cooper] on ECS, FCP or RealOEM
I do have a spare set of coils, so I may swap those in & See if anything changes. Or just swap the #4 to another spot & see if the misfire follows.

HPFP is only for turbo engines for that MINI in the engine bay on the side of the head. Then they all have the in tank primary pump.

Thanks, that narrows it down to hopefully a coil issue.
My BlueDriver indicates a cyl 4 misfire, is cyl4 driver or pass side?

Tried 3 different coils on cyl 4. Still have a miss, so guessing next step is plugs.
Problem is, i don't seem to have a socket that fits. 15mm is just barely too big & slips, 14mm too small.
5/8 plug socket doesn't fit either.

If the plug/plugs doesn't fix it, compression check is in order.

I did have one go bad in mine about a year ago. I have the JB+ on mine and when running wide open, I see 18-20 lbs boost. Because of this someone recommended going one step colder. I did but do to having the accident/repairing my Coupe it isn't a "fair" timeframe evaluation as it was off the road for 4-5 months

No turbo here, so plug temp probably less of an issue.
Just need to find the right socket to pull the plugs

2010 R57 base... DUH didn't read/notice that.

Not sure on the spark plug socket. I did have to buy one (can't remember what size) but it was a 12 point thin wall. Is your spark plug a 6 point or 12 point type?

Same applies with compression test. Harbor Freight has an inexpensive kit. I haven't purchased it myself as my brother has one. It was like $30 and has three different spark plug size/thread adapters.

BTW, you don't know what you are missing without the turbo.

12pt on the plugs. a 15mm fits but slips, don't want to round off the head on the plug.
I barely missed out on a super clean, low mile Clubman S. But the base work for a commuter, for now.

I can check when I get home, but I'm sure that you need a 14mm thin wall 12 pt. Check with ECS

Yep take that special thin wall. Most plugs are the 12 point unless you get a brisk plug, but most of their plugs are now the 12 point for MINI. Use to be 6 point. Some people like the swivel head version. I used both on my Gen 2 MINIs.

Thanks, any recommendation Iridium v Platinum for a Base Cooper? Also heat range 6 v 7?
May get something local, so I can do this today & not keep risking driving 40 miles a day with a misfire.

Iridium and for the base I would do stock heat range unless you are getting a tune for something that requires it.

How did my MCS HPFP thread turn into a base coil/plug thread? Pretty sure that’s not my issue.

I did replace the plugs and coil packs a while back as proactive maintenance.

Sorry for the thread drift, I jumped on since my symptoms were similar, but wasn't aware the Base didn't have a HPFP.
And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

Edit to add a comment: New NGK Iridium plugs seem to have resolved my problem. Nice smooth idle now.
