Power Steering Pump whines while not turning
Hi all,
I am hoping for some insight/advice. My 2006 MCS with 113k miles recently developed an issue with the PSP. Unfortunately the car is not covered under the recall. Intermittently, the pump would whine way louder than normal upon start up but quiet down after about a minute. Fluid level was fine, power steering was normal, and pump would turn off and on with the car. I proceeded to disassemble the pump, clean the dust buildup out, add new grease to the bearings in the pump, and reinstalled. I also changed the fluid reservoir and added new correct fluid. Now my issue is that I can slightly hear the pump whine even when not turning the wheel. Again, steering is nice and light and no other issues with the pump. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what's happening and if I should be concerned?
