R50/53 Performance camshaft
Performance camshaft
OK, folks. I'm looking for a street cam to bump up the HP a bit. Not interested in racing/track days so the extra lift can't be substantial. Also not interested in a really lumpy idle. Check my signature for current mods. After installation, I would be updating the existing Adrian Nastase tune. Suggestions? If you've replaced your cam, please also include your thoughts on any improvements you realized. Thanks.
Really enjoy my Newman PH1/2. Nice compromise for a road car that gets you moving at lower RPM and helps with midrange torque. This came referred by others as well. Idle is brilliant with Adrian's tuning skills:

I've had the Cat Cams sport cam 1302461 in the R53 for a couple years now. No complaints - got about a 15 HP gain with only slight diff in start / idle performance.

I'd ask Adrian what he thinks and go with his suggestion since he's your tuner.

Personally I use one of Thumpers Cams with good results as well.
As long as you buy the Cam from a reputable vendor you'll probably be ok, the real question is "where in the rpm range do you want the extra power" low, mid or high.
While a change in Cam can add power, that addition will only cover a certain RPM Range, it's just a fact of the way they work. So it really depends on your driving and use.
Typically: Low / Mid / High with some overlap into each.
Canyon Carving = Low end grunt to pull you out of the corners.
Road Racing = Mid to High for passing once moving
Drag / Street = High end once you've got traction (FWD thing...lol)
Pick your use, (this is what will make "you" happiest with your purchase) and do as suggested above, speak to your tuner for his input, and go from there.
