R57 2 Questions: Battery & Brakes
2 Questions: Battery & Brakes
Figure this would get more visibility & response here, than the R57 side.
Likely picking up a R57 from my dad, triple brown non-S, but it's been sitting for about a year & the battery is completely flat.
Question 1: Does the battery have to be 'registered' to the car when it's replaced? Is this something easily DIY?
The brake wear light was on when he was last driving it. He replaced the pads & the sensor, but the light stayed on
Question 2: How is the brake wear light reset? I want to say I saw somewhere there a button sequence to reset it.
I'll need to get it inspected before being able to register it, and it'll fail with the brake light on.

@JAMADOR ,
As for the battery, do you have that square box on your negative cable? If so, your car has an IBS(intelligent battery system). If you’re just charging the battery back up, no need to re-register the battery. However if you’re getting a new replacement battery, then yes. You will need to register the battery. Any OBDII scan tool can register your new battery.

Well, looks like I'll be picking up that Zurich
Mini fee to register the battery at my closest dealer: $195
Battery with install & program from the dealer $500
None of the local auto parts stores can do it
Figure the code reader will be otherwise handy & good to have.

Some of these cars have IBS and some don't. Not sure what the logic is. If you don't have IBS, nothing is required after installing the new battery.
Brake pad sensor is a wire beside the pad that rubs against the rotor and grounds out once the pad gets thin enough. Nothing to reset inside the car, but If the light doesn't go out once the pads are changed, the 'sensor' is bad and needs to be replaced. Some people will say to replace the sensor whenever it wears through the wire's coating - if you don't, the worst that can happen is it gives you a false brake wear light at some point down the road.

Good to know. If no IBS, I can just return the scan tool I bought yesterday
On the brake sensor, it'll fail for inspection with the light on [for 1 more year, until TX drops the safety req for annual inspection]. IIRC, they replace the sensor when they did the brakes, will have to get a look at it all tomorrow when I get there.

Small update.
No IBS, so I didn't need the scan tool. Small win.
Drove the 65 miles gome without issue.
Cannot get into the svc menu, though. Did the process in post #2, get the dash light check, but never get to step 8.
Advice?
